Christopher Collet, a superb young actor who appeared in less than a handful of films back in the early 80s (The Manhattan Project, First Born)portrays a young man who keeps questioning the value of life since we all die in the end anyway. He is momentarily trapped in this conundrum and can't seem to find his way out of it.
His questioning of adults doesn't help his situation, since there is really no satisfying pat answer. He almost appears like a young St. Francis searching for the meaning and reason for life, yet cannot shake an overriding depressive mood. But, one day, after periodically observing a number of pigeons in flight, something inside of him clicks.
His unspoken admiration for the pigeons and his awareness of a single feather combine to calm his uncertainty and dilemma. There is nothing deep or overly "philosophical" here. Only the quietude of silent appreciation for this other life form, its ability to fly and the beauty of its feathers suddenly bring an unexpected calm and acceptance to our confused youngster. And in that instant we feel the resolution to his psychological problem has taken hold. This is a short film but very moving and well done. It's too bad that Collet chose not to continue his acting career. One of the potentially best. Highly recommended for all ages. Enjoy!

This is a part of the American Short Story Collection, originally on PBS. "Pigeon Feathers" is a faithful adaptation of a short story of the same name by John Updike. This is a coming of age story about a teenager named David who has recently moved to the country with his family. The "coming of age" in the story involves David's struggles with doubts about the Christian faith and his solitary attempt to resolve his mental anguish. Unfortunately for David, most of the answers he gets from adults, including the local minister, are disappointing. David decides that he'll have to figure it out for himself - and he does. The ending of the story seems to have been inspired by Matthew 6:26 ("Consider the birds of the air") and is very well done.

Inspiring and touching story on a subject that Hollywood ignores.

Can't review content because poor video quality makes this film unwatchable. Image jumps and sound is choppy.
