PreS-Gr 2—Shivering outside The Pillow Place storefront, a dog hatches a plan to find a home. Snuggling among the cushions, the resourceful little dog is purchased and goes home with a customer. Although the pup has all the qualities of a soft and fluffy pillow, she's returned to the store; the man complains that the pillow keeps moving. At the Furniture Barn, the same customer buys a footstool—it's the jaunty pooch again. The footstool is returned, this time, for being too noisy. Readers will root for the dog, anticipating what object the animal will impersonate next to win the man's heart. The final act where a cat works its way into the new family is a delight. Reminiscent of Arthur Howard's Hoodwinked, Gehl's charming story leaves the audience wondering when the lonely man will catch on to the companionship the animals can offer. Weyant's cartoon images, with labels and captions, replace a narrative text. Humorous and lively, the cartoons keep readers in on the joke, but can occasionally feel adult in look and sensibility. "My Pillow Keeps Moving" is a book about the creative way a dog and a cat find a new home and get out of the cold. This text in the book splits between page text and words on the signs in the illustrated buildings which I found to be a fun addition. Reading this book puts me in mind of how we came to adopt our oldest cat, Max. Someone had dumped several cats in the neighborhood, but Max decide he wanted in our house. He would sit at our back door looking in and when I went out to scare him away, he would not be deterred. Eventually we capitulated and let him in.

April 2018 - I just checked this book out at my local library and it is my new favorite children's book! (Replacing another great funny book "I am Not a Chair!" by Ross Burach). My Pillow Keeps Moving is original, clever, and amusing. It is full of surprises and in the end, heartwarming. I am a mom of a 4- and a 6-year-old. I was an elementary school teacher and a librarian. We read tons of books and I'm so happy to find a new favorite.

What a clever fun book. I absolutely love it for the characters, the persistent pup, the man who tries hard to sort out his strange purchases, and what a gorgeous ending. This book is funny, quirky, original and the perfect length for reading over and over. One of my top picks for the year.

Another excellent book from Dr. Laura Gehl. A pup is looking for a home and finds unique ways to find an owner that lead to some hilarious outcomes. The illustrations are funny and capture the heart of the two characters with another fun surprise at the end. Children and adults will laugh throughout following this adorable pup.
