would probably be alot more comfortably if put in an automatic (floor shifter) car.
For an automatic, the entire device needs to be pushed down to shift gears. The trigger piece does move, but it does not perform any function. This was another issue with my car; the act of pushing down pushed the release button either too much or too little to allow me to shift.

When tightened down the shifter wouldn’t work right
So I left it a little loose and works just fine for me
