Product Description

Off the successful February release of his Smokey Robinson Mixtape totaling over 100 thousand downloads, Curren$y is releasing "Pilot Talk." Featuring tracks produced by Ski Beatz and Mos Def, and featuring artists such as Jay Electronica, Mos Def, Wiz Khalifa, Devin the Dude, Mikey Rocks, Stalley and more, Pilot Talk promises to be a legendary album.

About the Artist

New Orleans native, Shante Franklin, also known as the acclaimed indie rapper Curren$y, began his career as an artist on No Limit Records. After developing a relationship with Lil' Wayne, he left No Limit in 2005 and signed with Young Money Entertainment where he created music until late 2007. However, due to differences, Curren$y proceeded to take his style and music elsewhere. As an artist, Curren$y has evolved and perfected his lyrical delivery into a very unique sound. He also created the Jets International brand, a fresh approach to the new urban movement. With his own personal swagger and quick-witted lyrics, he is redefining the essence of what it means to be a southern rapper. As an artist he has built a brand by relentlessly releasing mix tapes, such as "This Ain't No Mixtape" in 2009, and attacking the internet with creative tenacity and conviction for his music. Curren$y has recorded with acclaimed artists such as Lil' Wayne, The Black Keys, The Disco Biscuits, Wiz Khalifa, The Cool Kids, and Mos Def. His latest album, "Pilot Talk," produced by the legendary Ski Beatz, incorporates live instrumentation into Curren$y's recorded live stage performances. Today, Curren$y can often be seen at Damon Dash's New York City media enterprise DD172, where he, as one of the integral artists can often be found in the recording studio working on his next project.

This was the best CD I've listened to in a long time. The guitar and rap mix is soulful and inspiring. I wish I could say such good things about most of today's rap. This is a must buy CD. I love it!!!

Curren$y Tha Hot Spitta finally releases his long overdue debut album Pilot Talk. Curren$y is somewhat of an enigma in the rap game. People may remember him as part of the original Young Money crew with Lil Wayne or may be more familiar with his classic single Where The Ca$h At ft. Remy Ma & Lil Wayne back in 2004. He also was featured on Lil Wayne's critically acclaimed Tha Carter 2 on the single Grown Man.

After a few non-malicious label disputes, a myriad of well received mixtapes and street albums, and a grassroots movement (JETS Son), Curren$y has finally dropped his official major label debut for the masses. I admit I was not that high on Curren$y until around this time last year (2009). I heard the song Car Service with Wiz Khalifa (also who I became a fan of at that time) and the rest was history.

Curren$y definitely has the skills to hang with some of the best rappers of today. Being somewhat of a late bloomer as far mainstream success and being somewhat unorthodox in his approach, Curren$y definitely doesn't disappoint. The album keeps a consistent tone and attitude throughout as we are exposed to his blunted reality. The production perfectly fits his style and, while not eyebrow amazing, is hypnotic and addictive. The guests are along for the ride and don't disappoint at all. The features include Jay Electronica (where's his album already??), Big K.R.I.T. (newest Def Jam signee...look for big things from him), Mos Def, Devin The Dude, Nesby Phips, Smoke DZA, Trademark Da Skydiver and Snoop Dogg.

The superior songs seem to be Audio Dope II, Life Under The Scope, The Day and Prioritize (Shout out to Big Boi!) but every song is at least 4 stars. Curren$y has managed to release an album that's worthy of repeated plays and should not be slept on in the least. Easily one of the better albums of the year and I advise you to pick this one up quickly. 4.5 Stars.

Ive been a curren$y fan since before Young Money. After listening to all of his mixtapes on repeat for days at a time, i was wondering what was taking him so long to actually drop an LP. When i heard Pilot Talk was coming out i was excited but nervous at the same time seeing as this was his first album. After listening to this whole CD 3 times on its drop date alone... I can comfortably say... Curren$y is a beast on an underground level as well as mainstream. A+

This is a solid rap cd and I've been happy with the purchase. No silly skits mar it. The best cut is "Roasted" -- that is the cut when people at your party say "yo these beats are legit who is this??". I think someone with even a passing interest in rap music would enjoy this.

Probably the magnum opus for Spitta Andretti that actually took me a while to get into before I realized it's brilliance. I heard about Curren$y through some friends of mine and thought, "Yeah, this guy is pretty good. Nothing super special about him but he seems chill and he seems to pick the right beats for his type of flow". I know he was on No Limit and Young Money and has been in the game for quite a minute now, but, he really seemed to catch fire (yes, pun intended) when he started working with his good friend Wiz Khlaifa as Wiz started to blow up. The first CurrenSy project that I heard from start to finish was the project he did with Wiz, "How Fly", and I found myself really digging Spitta's verses over Wiz's and Wiz really went in on that project too. It was just something about Spitta that just seemed so clever and cunning and just pop culture references for days. After hearing that, I started to dig through his mixtape catalog and decided it was time to venture into his actual albums. I started with "This Ain't no Mixtape" and found myself loving the project. There really was soo much bang for my buck. So when I was in a best buy just trying to kill some time, I was in the CD section and saw that they had this album on sale for 5 bucks. I instantly jumped on it and immediately threw it in my car stereo. After the first listen, I wasn't too impressed. I thought, "Dang, that sucks. It just seemed like he peaked on his mixtapes and his first album". After putting it my CD binder, I basically forgot about it for a while until one day when I went on a road trip to Vegas, and I decided to give it another listen again. After giving it another listen, I found myself giving it another spin, then another spin, and another. I played it through 6 times in a row.Read more ›

This is the best of the year so far in Hip-Hop. You can listen to this from beginning to end with no stops. I have so many favorite songs on here it's ridiculous. Ive already put like 10 people on to the album but they can't find it anywhere in Houston so I'm assuming it's sold out. Good album.

This album has all the polish that was missing from Curren$y's previous offerings. The lyrical content has always been there. Veteran producer Ski Beatz gives a consistency that's been needed in Spitta's overall musical production. The captain of the JETS also calls in a lot of favors as far as guest features go with a notable absence being, frequent partner in rhyme, Wiz Khalifa. Jay Electronica gives what is easily on of this year's best verses on "The Day." If you're a fan, you already know "Tha Planes Got It." If you're a new listener and have been looking for substance in hip hop, support great artists! Planes ova everythang!
