This method is a little boring, but you will learn a lot and remember a lot, for the time you invested listening to the CDs.
The German I Pimsleur Language Level comes in a box with 16 CDs. Each CD has 2 modules of approximately 30 minutes, plus a reading lesson per module after module 10. As per the course instructions, you should listen to only one module a day. Also, you need to repeat each learning module until you get at least 80% of the phrases correct.
In average, I have to repeat each module 3 times (morning, afternoon and next morning) to achieve 80% or higher understanding of that module’s lesson.
I have tried other methods and I am very pleased on how quickly I am learning basic German vocabulary using the Pimsleur method.
The only thing is that the Amazon add shows the original Simon and Schuster Pimsleur package, but I received the Pimsleur Approach Gold Edition instead. The difference between them is that the Gold Edition does not come with the reading booklet. You have to download it online to be able to do the reading part of the lessons.
(It is funny how marketing people operate. At first glance, one my think you will get more, not less, purchasing the "Gold Edition" of something! ). However the price was good and I kept the Gold Edition.
Level One focuses mostly on things you'd need to know if you're going on vacation (passport, where is this street, purchases, introductions). Looking forward to level 2!
Thanks for reading,
I do already have some knowledge of German as I lived in Switzerland many years ago, so I am not a complete beginner & have a fairly good vocabulary. What I really like about these lessons, although they may seem repetitive is you do remember the words, the pronunciation & the order in which the words should be spoken. I like that the lessons aren't too long & you do learn a bit more each day as well as recap what has already been taught. My concern has always been that I can think of what to say, but have that "deer in headlights look" when someone speaks to me in German. By listening to these CDs I am finding it easier to translate what is being said as well as me answering the questions when asked. I will definitely invest in level 11.

I spent 30 days with this pack in my van during commutes and I can now have a conversation with confidence. Highly recommend this product.
