Switching to Pinnacle
When switching to Pinnacle, we recommend that you switch your pet over slowly. This is very important so you don’t disrupt your pet’s digestive pattern. Changing foods will often cause vomiting or diarrhea if not done correctly. Therefore, we recommend a 5-day transition before you begin feeding Pinnacle exclusively. The switch is an easy transition that includes both Pinnacle and your pet’s old brand. For the first two days, feed 20% Pinnacle and 80% of the old brand. For the next two days, feed 50% Pinnacle and 50% of your pet’s old brand. On day 5, feed 80% Pinnacle and 20% of the old brand. On the 6th day, you can feel confident feeding Pinnacle for the rest of your pet’s life. Please refer to diagram below:

This is not true any more. I now buy taste of the wild grain free salmon for significantly less. My dog is doing just as well on TOTW, and from what I can tell, the ingredients are mostly the same. I ran out of this and had to do a quick transition to TOTW, and my usually extremely sensitive dog didn't skip a beat (i.e., solid poop). So I guess what I'm saying is that this is a good choice for a dog that is sensitive to most dog foods, but since the price increase, I have found other brands to be just as good.
I don't take the extreme position that raw meat is necessary for dog health. There are practical limits. But I remembered some really smelly poo from my previous pooch. So, I elected to give the Pinnacle a try.
Once she settled in, she fed on this product well and her system seems to be happy with it. I had a recent experience when I stopped in to my local pet store to reprovision our supply. They no longer carried the Pinnacle line, so I was forced to buy another (grain-free) food.
This did not work so well. My Girl developed symptoms of gastritis. Her bowel habits changed and her poo became quite odoriferous. I was happy when my shipment of Pinnacle arrived. I mixed the remaining other food with about an equal amount of Pinnacle to transition her back.
Within a few days she was back to normal, which made both of us happy. Finding the right food for our four-legged friends can be a challenge. Quality food is life-enhancing. It took me a long time to learn this, but it's true for both people and pups. It is worth the search and the price to find a good match.
Initially I noticed that she wasn't as eager to eat as she normally is. Pacing around the kitchen before she finally gave in and ate this stuff. I introduced it slowly over 7-8 days and scaled back her regular kibble. It didn't help. She had bouts of vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Immediately took her off this food. Rice and protein only till her stomach recovered, and then back on her old kibble.
The vet recommended a Hills diet food instead. Shame, I really hoped this wholefood, healthy option would work. Disappointing and stuck with a huge bag of Pinnacle that I can't do anything with!
