I originally bought it for loose tea. Green tea requires water at 170° to 180°, white tea is best brewed at 140° to 160°, and oolongs call for 180° to 200°. I used to heat water on the stove or in the microwave. If I needed cooler water, I would then either add cold water or wait for it to cool, using a thermometer or just guessing. Now I just set it and forget it. It saves me at least 5-10 minutes every time I brew tea. I put the water in the Pino, set the temperature, and turn it on. Then I can go about weighing the tea, preheating the teapot and the thermos, or reading the paper while the water is heating up. My previously complicated and messy operation is now smooth and efficient.
It can also bring the water to a boil, of course, for black teas, and it will then hold it at 207° -- just below boiling so the oxygen does not get depleted if you are not able to use it immediately. And you can quickly bring it back to a full boil by pushing the on/off button twice. As far as I know, this is the only kettle that will bring water to a specific temperature and hold it there.
The kettle is simple to use and essentially fool proof. For boiling water, just push the On button. It will bring the water to a boil and then back off to about 207° and hold. For cooler water, use the up/down arrows to set the digital temperature then push On. It will bring the water to that temperature and hold it there.Read more ›
I'll start with what I like about the kettle:
-It will quickly and easily heat water to the exact temperature you dial in.
-It is decently well constructed, and it's easy to use.
-It boils water pretty fast, and the displayed temperature seems to be very accurate.
-It has a capacity larger than anything I've needed yet.
-I like that it can be removed from the base to carry the hot water with you to the table or anywhere else, without unplugging it and bringing the cord too.
-When you remove the kettle with hot water in it from the base, the metal sides are hot (of course), but the bottom black base is cool, so you can set it on the counter or whatever without burning it.
-It's all stainless steel inside - no plastic parts.
-Looks pretty nice on the counter.
-This one is my fault, because I didn't real the manual, but the way you are supposed to get the water to your desired temperature, is to, while the base is OFF, set the temperature with the arrows, and then press the on button.Read more ›
In addition, the Pino Digital Kettle Pro is really attractive, so much so that I've given mine a place of prominence on the countertop next to my coffee maker. Guests often comment on how nice it looks.
At 1000 watts, the kettle heats a full 1.5 L of water fairly quickly, but isn't as likely to overload kitchen electrical circuits like the 1500 watt models.
The Pino Company takes customer relations seriously. When I had a series of questions relating to another product I had bought from them previously, they answered my emails within a day and even called me directly to be sure I was satisfied with my purchase.
If there were some way for the kettle to include markers for preferred temps for white or green teas, that would be great, especially when leaving the kettle out with assorted tea bags when entertaining guests. But I've overcome that by making up a little chart of preferred temps and brew times to leave by the basket of teabags.
This is a great product, thoughtfully designed by a caring company, one of the few electric kettle manufacturers who seem to be truly in touch with the needs of consumers.
