This head unit gives a lot of bang for your buck. It replaced an old Alpine IVA-W505 that cost nearly twice as much (when including the Blackbird II navigation unit) when it was new. This Pioneer unit even surpasses some factory units in brand new cars today.

My primary use is with Android Auto, and it's only improved (less buggy than before) with updates from the Play Store (the individual apps are actually stored on your phone). I borrowed an iPhone to try out Apple Car Play, that that's pretty cool too. In terms of function, both Android Auto and Apple Car Play are nearly identical. In comparison to the colorful and animated Android Auto, the Apple Car Play interface seems a bit dated and bland, though (no fault of Pioneer). Unfortunately, you're stuck with the interface that matches the OS on your phone.

Which leads me to why I like this head unit so much. It's versatile. You don't have to pick a different head unit because it doesn't support your device - this one can do both of the popular mobile operating systems. There is a different USB port for Android and iOS, but it's not as simple as just plugging in the other device. You have to go into settings and pick between "Apple" and "Other" before switching. I also recommend picking up a mic for the automatic sound configuration. With the default sound settings, everything sounded a bit muffled. As soon as I did the auto configure, everything sounded so much cleaner and clearer. You can customize the buttons colors to match the illumination of your vehicle too. You're not stuck with the usual blue or red. You can even upload custom boot screens and wallpapers. Don't let the resistive touch screen fool you. It's very responsive considering it's not capacitive.

I picked one up a couple of days ago and had installed. It is a beautiful unit but a couple of notes and caveats:
•The USB power output from the either of the USB ports is not sufficient to charge larger phablets such as the Galaxy Note 4 or Iphone 6 while I am using GPS. This is problematic for applications such as androidauto as it requires a usb cable connection to the unit (as far as I can tell) to function. I am looking to see if I can get a powered usb hub and use an inverter to boost the power and share the usb connection
•The appradio app right now for android is a mess on larger phones. The text is so tiny on the phone as to be unreadable.
•Connections using appradio or appradio unchained require an MHL adapter. If you have a recent phone, beware of cheap or older MHL adapters. They likely will be flakey and will not output the full resoultion of the phone (MHL 1 and 2 are limited to 1080 output...MHL 3 can output up to 4k.) The brandname MHL adapters (Samsung) are very pricey at $50 +. But they work.
•There are very few apps compatible with appradio right now. I would suggest you use appradio unchained reloaded on the play store if you are using android. It costs $29 but is worth it. You will need to root your phone (you are good to go with a simple root if you have T-Mobile or verizon as their bootloaders are not locked...att and sprint are still locking theirs, so this is a much more involved root process) to use. There is also a more limited "free" version. Iphones can only use carplay. I understand carplay works ok but has limited functionality
•Androidauto requires android 5.0. on your phone.
•You can output your entire android screen with touch capabilities on the 4100nex if you use appradiounchained reloaded.

The value of this head unit is unlike no other. Name brand, all the features you would come to expect (I might be biased towards pioneer :D). Unlike the AppRadio 2 or 3, this has a removable display. It also has many more options for connectivity than the previous. It has two USB ports at 1.6A each. I just got it, and still need time to play with it. For now I will post the impossible-to-find photos of the rear (inputs/outputs) of the Head unit.

I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler 4 door and like most people who own wranglers will tell you, the stock audio can be "lacking". At first I was hesitant on purchasing an after market head unit but when my brother in law put this unit in his car I was blown away.

I went to the local "Best" store but when I saw that it would be over $150 more expensive, I put away my need for instant gratification and waited a WHOLE 2 Days for Prime delivery. (I freaking love Prime!!).

Installation takes patience, once you accept that you can move forward and reap the rewards! Let it be known that there are a lot of cables to be laid if you want all the bells and whistles, (especially if you're running an amp or anything else) but hey, if you already have your dash apart why not knock it out.

Yes, this is the one with the detachable face. It even brings a neoprene sleeve for the face plate.

Special thanks to the earlier reviewer with the 2012 Wrangler for posting that photo. Helped me visualize how the head unit would look installed.
