Still figuring out all of the programming and that only largely thanks to YouTube. Terrific receiver, great sound, good feature set, tough to program because of an obscure menu tree. Invested in the CD MC20 microphone and really love the sound improvement with the Auto-EQ function. Navi features exceed the Apple Maps in CarPlay once I figured out how to change the voice advisory settings. The over the speed limit warning made me jump the first time because of the volume. That said, it has a much more friendly nav to use and see than Apple Maps and larger display than my Garmin Nuvi. After several unsucessful attempts to configure Bluetooth music from my iPhone and USB iPod music together i finally realized that it is essentially an either or situation. If the iPod is connected i can get only Bluetooth audio for phone calls, once the iPod is disconnected I can use Bluetooth phone and Bluetooth music from iPhone. I relied heavily on numerous Pioneer produced YouTube videos for the Avic-5000nex to set up my Avic-5100. They would be helpful for both the 2014 and 2015 Avic Navigation series. This unit is much easier to see in daylight and has a more sensitive touch screen than my previous Pioneer AVH-3500. Havent used CarPlay much yet but tried out the Messages App and like the visual list of messages. I wouldnt purchase this unit solely for Apple CarPlay. I am a long time Apple fan and have owned/own many of their products. I dont stream music or podcasts (probably a product of my generation) and use Bluetooth phone a fair amount. I will be using more Bluetooth voice commands to send and receive texts. I consider CarPlay App spectum a little thin. research Siri commands online, there are a number of voice commands I never knew about that work with my previous receiver that would have saved quite a few bucks and kept me safer. Everything considered I am still very pleased with this product and feature set and CarPlay is still an upgrade.

Great price and fast shipping from Amazon. Installation into my 2008 4Runner was easy given the Metra wiring adapter I purchased. I also purchased a PAC SWI-RC steering wheel adapter so I could retain all my controls.

Screen & Responsiveness: The screen brightness and resolution have been great. I haven't seen any bad glare and the screen has always been easily readable in many situations. Also, the system has been very responsive. In looking at other units I really wanted one that would not lag on scrolling, or inputting text, etc. This system operates very quickly and all the menus are easy to learn.

Audio: Much much better than the stock head unit that came with my 4Runner. Once I dialed in exactly what I wanted out of the EQ settings everything has been great. Also the ability to just keep my Android phone in my pocket and play either local music or Rdio every time I get in the car is great.

Navigation: Navigation so far has been very good. I tapped into the VSS wire for the car so its been very smooth and loads relatively quickly compared to many units I've seen. Some of the most helpful features have been the listing of house numbers at the top of the screen, listing the known speed limit, and pointing out the names of adjacent roads as they appear on the screen.

Backup Camera: I also installed the pioneer BD6 backup camera. Picture comes up very quickly. Sometimes the backup lines take an extra second to appear, but not long enough to annoy me. The fact that you can adjust the backup lines was great considering I had to mount the camera off-center on my rear door.

I should have done more research and was a little disappointed to find out that this unit does not have Android Auto compatibility. It does have Apple CarPlay comparability and my wife's iPhone works beautifully with it.

So here's the deal, I've had this unit since September/October ish. I put it in a super old 1996 outback. I've owned multiple pioneer nav units and I constantly recommend them to friends and family and even do the installations for them. I've installed like 15+ pioneer double din units over the years.

what's up with this one? Pioneer flat out ignored the international standard for double din sizing. Upon further research they've done this with pretty much all their latest avic units. Contacted metra and they say they get at least one complaint a day. These units are TOO large for a double din bezel, both width and height wise.

When I installed it on my outback back in the fall I chalked up the bad sizing to my car being a 20 year old piece of junk. I managed to get the stereo to mount but it say about 1cm behind the bezel and just looked ghetto.

Fast forward to this weekend, I just bought a 2006 WRX STI and I decided to go ahead and swap the unit from my outback to the new whip. NOPE, it's too big. And I've owned this exact same car 3-4 years ago and had success with pioneers older 940bt units. For whatever reason pioneer thought they could just get away with a larger size and people would just manage.

NO WORRIES RIGHT? Yeah I took a flipping Dremel with a sand paper bit and literally sanded off half a cm all along the sides of MY FREAKING STEREO to make it fit. And now it fits perfectly. Thanks pioneer for turning me into a custom stereo fab technician, I didn't know I had it in me!
