CDJ-2000nexus Professional Multi Player
Pioneer's flagship CDJ player, the CDJ-2000nexus, offers exciting features and technologies including industry-first Wi-Fi connectivity, compatibility with Pioneer's new rekordbox App for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android tablets, and smartphones, and new functions such as Beat Sync, Wave Zoom and Slip. Newly enhanced features inherited by the CDJ-2000nexus include a selection screen interface for a more intuitive music search experience, increased visibility of the needle search pad, and improved master tempo sound quality.
Industry's First DJ Player with Wireless Source Capability
The CDJ-2000nexus can utilize different music sources, from a hard drive to USB thumb drive and/or SD memory card--and now for the first time, you can use an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android device, or a computer as a source via Wi-Fi. Using Pioneer's rekordbox App to create playlists, cue/loop points, beat location settings, waveform analysis and more, you can temporarily transfer the content wirelessly through Wi-Fi to the CDJ-2000nexus. You can also perform the same wireless function with a Mac/PC utilizing the rekordbox music management software.
rekordbox Software Functions
With the included rekordbox music management software installed on a computer, you can organize and catalog your entire music libraries. Newly added features available when rekordbox is used with the CDJ-2000nexus include music file analysis functions such as Wave Form Zoom (wave form expansion) and Key, as well as additional settings such as Active Loop and Hot Cue Auto Load.
When music files are imported to rekordbox, the software analyzes each file and prepares it for use specifically for the CDJ player. Key elements of Pioneer's rekordbox software:
- Data Analysis--Wave Zoom, Key, Wave, Beat Grid, BPM, ID3 Tag and more
- Track Settings--Active Loop, Hot Cue Auto Load, Cue, Loop
- Creation and editing of Playlists
- Saving of playback log information
Full-Color LCD Display
The CDJ-2000nexus features a large, full-color WQVGA 6.1-inch (480 x 234) LCD panel for displaying song titles and album art as well as detailed track information. The Wave data of each song is also illustrated on screen and the new Wave Zoom function provides five different levels of magnification of the wave data which are color-coded according to bandwidth.
Pro DJ Link
Pioneer's Pro DJ Link feature enables up to four CDJ-2000nexus players to connect via the Link Port and share a single music source. Additional functions added to the CDJ-2000nexus that can be accessed when other players are connected using the Pro DJ Link are:
- Beat Sync--Tempo and beat location of music currently playing on one of the device can be matched with the push of a button.
- Traffic Light--Shows the keys of music being played by any players connected via Pro DJ Link, making key-compatible music easier to find by a different color indicator.
- Beat Count and Phase Meter--The Beat Count, which is the number of beats until a set point (memory cue), and the Phase Meter, which shows the beat/bar of the music, can also be displayed simultaneously by other players.
When activated, Slip Mode silently continues song playback during a loop, reverse or scratch and continues audible playback at the exact time when the loop, reverse or scratch is ended, resulting in smoother transitions.
Utilizing a Quantizing feature, cue points and loops can be set perfectly on-beat. The Quantize feature ensures cue points are set accurately and automatically, correcting and synching beats during manual looping or real-time cueing to reduce off-beat mistakes.
The function settings of a player can be saved to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, USB storage device, SD memory card, or other device. For additional convenience, the settings can also be can be made ahead of time on the rekordbox App or software allowing you switch to your settings when a connection is made to the CDJ-2000nexus.
To achieve excellent sound quality, the player is equipped with the audio industry's highly respected Wolfson DAC processor, delivering a very transparent, accurate audio signal with a highly improved signal-to-noise ratio and increased headroom.
DJ Software MIDI/HID Control
Up to 35 controls on the surface of each player can be used to trigger other devices, such as DJ effectors and software, by way of HID and/or MIDI.
The Active Loop feature automatically starts loops when playback begins from a specified point.
The touch pad lets the DJ "place the needle" and jump quickly to a specific part of a music track.
Load Previous Track
Load Previous Track allows playback of prior music that has been loaded to the player (no built-in memory).
Rating on the Go
You can rate tracks during play for easy reference or sorting using the built-in Rate feature.
Top Customer Reviews
First off, they must have created another product page for the CDJ-2000 Nexus units because I left a review when I bought them nearly a year ago. Whatever, I'll tell you why I've given this device a one star rating.
The players are solid and built well. They do what they are designed to do and do it well. So why the poor rating?
Well, first off these units are nearly dependent upon using the RekordBox application that Pioneer forces you to use, assuming you want to see the wave form of any MP3 or MP4 song. One of the main features of these decks is to use the waveform feature so you will know when the high points and low points of the song are coming up (for fading/mixing). If you own/buy these decks you have no other choice but to use the Rekordbox application to save the waveform information and view it on the players.
That would normally not be such a big deal but here's the problem. Rekordbox (in it's current state 7/30/2013) absolutely sucks! If you check out Pioneer's forums you will see the community is outraged by this garbage they call software. All user reported bugs/issues/feature requests seem to be ignored and if this application does receive an update it's usually every 6 months with NONE of the community requested features. The program often crashes and Pioneer can't provide much support since they don't make the software. Really? You force your customers to use a piece of junk application that you have little control over and can't provide adequate support for?
MixVibes makes Rekordbox for Pioneer and it's apparent that the Pioneer community is looking for basic features that aren't being properly communicated to the people at MixVibes. When you address your complaint to Pioneer support they close your thread and say they will make a note of it.
These would be 5-star devices if you weren't forced into using such a horrendous application that Pioneer has no intentions of supporting. Can you imagine buying an ipad/iphone and being forced to use iTunes which in turn is made by a company on the other side of the globe and they can't fix the bugs or implement new features? I don't think Apple would be as huge as they are if they went this route.
Unless someone finds a way to "jailbreak" these units so you can utilize them to their full potential and without having to rely on Rekordbox I'd use extreme caution before buying them. Here's my advice, download Rekordbox from Pioneers website (free download). Try using the program, converting mp3 files, etc. and see if this is something you want to deal with on a daily basis. That should help you decide if you want to drop money on these or a used car.
On the dark side of things...
What is the deal with you not fully supporting Serato SL 2/ SL3/ SL4 like you did with the previous CDJ2000 Gen. 1 decks? Pioneer Support was never able to provide a straight answer as to why and even after several postings on their site they ended up closing further posts about the SERATO issue.
For starters the firmware dropped back down to Version 1.2, why did PIONEER DJ drop from 4.11 to 1.2? this makes the use of any version of Serato a nightmare. Serato users... get ready for some serious playback issues, even when running Serato Code CDs (Oh, and Serato Cue points that used to work with the former CDJ2000s will not work with the CDJ2000 Nexus). Why? Only a higher power will know, Pioneer support doesn't. NO HID Support for Serato!!!
On the bright side of things...
Yes, the decks are a $2,000.00USD marble and they do deliver good looks and continue to have that solid PIONEER CDJ2000 build (HARDWARE-WISE). If you currently use Pioneer's ReKordBox then you are in heaven as these decks are MAINLY DESIGNED TO WORK WITH REKORDBOX ONLY!!! Serato will be a NO GO with these players.
Since I have been a SERATO user from day ONE and have taken quality time to build all of my cue points and SERATO Skills... I will NEVER kick SERATO good bye to just start all over by switching to RekordBox which turns out to be unstable at times (Yes... it just takes that one freeze to kill the dance floor)
Given the lack of PIONEER's support for SERATO and many other ongoing issues with these CDJ2000 Nexus players I was able to return them for a full refund.
> > > These CDJs DO NOT have a built-in wireless radio, like many people had thought < < <
The good news!!! I went ahead and purchased a brand new pair of PIONEER CDJ2000s Gen 1, YES! SERATO is back to normal with FULL CONTROL (HID). Also, all Cue Points are functional and I was able to get back on track with my DJ events!!!
