I bought a Memorex BD writer because it was on sale for about $70, and promptly created 5 coasters from two different brands of BD-R, using two different burning softwares. I then bought a $20 Sony rewriteable, which it burned fine, but well...you know. Customer Service could not/would not tell me specifically what the Memorex would burn, but advised me to keep buying different discs until I found one that would work, and then tell them. They did not offer to put me on the payroll, so I said goodbye forever. NOW you know how relieved and thrilled I was to find this brand-new writer from reliable Pioneer - for the same price as the sorry Memorex!!! I won't tell you its' features - you can read those elsewhere - but I want everybody to know that this jewel WORKS! I burned a 53 minute concert, that I had recorded in 1080P, to a JVC-TY BD-R LTH disc, mailed it to the artists, and they were astonished at the video and audio quality. That's the best review I can give. One more thing: I burned it with ImgBurn free software set at automatic burning speed; it was through so quickly, I at first thought it must have aborted!

Just received this item a day ago and as soon as i plugged it in windows 7 installed the drivers and got it up in running with zero problems. I downloaded total media theater 5 media center and fired up a blu-ray disc and all runs smooth with no audible noise and fast response. Also burned a 12Gb blu-ray disc lighting fast thanks to the 15x write speed on Nero 11. All in all good price and excellent product, with zero problems yet.

The 208 model is not a BDXL Burner. purchase the BDR-2207 or 2208 for BDXL burning capability. Other than that there is next to no difference between the 208 and 2208.

Received the burner a few days ago. Tested the burning capabilities on CD/DVD / BlueRay discs. Did not have a problem whatsoever. Pleased with the speed performance & functionality of the unit. Will probably purchase a second burner to allow me to make copies of BlueRay discs even faster. This unit will also burn data/video to double layer discs (50GB). The less expensive BlueRay burners will not have this capability.
Good product!

I'm someone who watches a lot of Anime, so I was looking for a solution to my problem. How to burn a entire season of a show in HD using as few discs as possible. Thankfully, I can now fit up to 30 episodes on a single DL Blu-Ray disc at 720p. So far I've used the following media in this burner.

Optical Quantum OQBDRDL06LT-10 6X 50 GB BD-R DL Blu-Ray Double Layer Recordable Logo Top

Verbatim 97457 25 GB 6x Blu-ray Single Layer Recordable Disc BD-R

HP DVD+R DL Double Layer 8X 8.5GB White Inkjet Printable

I've had zero errors burning a 4x speed (I like to play it safe). All Blu-Ray discs work in my PS3 and Sony BD player. DL-DVDs work in both players too, along with my Xbox 360 and a Magnavox DVD player.

If you're looking to upgrade from DVD's to Blu-Ray, this burner is the solution for you.

Bought this Blu-ray drive to put into a OWC Fire-Wire 800 enclosure to digitize my entire Blu-ray collection on my Mac. Works perfect and couldn't be happier with my purchase. Have gone through about 200 discs in my collection without a hitch!

This drive was definitely worth the extra money. It has been without issue thus far, almost 6 months later. I have been able to play all the latest Blu-rays in full 1080p with no issues. Also no coasters thus far when burning Blu-rays. Thank god because the disks are freaking expensive still.

Pioneer will always be my burner of choice. I have owned about five Pioneer drives during my cd/dvd burning career and love the Pioneer quality and this one is no different.

Ka-chow!! High quality, works great! And Pioneer to boot. What more could I ask for? Well, let me tell you (though it has nothing to do with the product). The hardware here doesn't come with any software. However, there is opensource free stuff that'll do just about everything you want, as far as burning and playing your DVDs. However, Blu-rays movie discs (that you rent or buy) will require the purchase of software, which ranges anywhere from about 30 to 90 bucks, the disadvantage also being the upgrades and support issues that sometime plague the software and require you to purchase the latest versions/upgrades. It's easier at this point to play your BD movies discs in a standard BD player. I didn't know this, and so I thought I'd put it out there for others with the same conundrum.
