The Center Channel Speaker
Introducing a remarkably affordable center channel speaker from Pioneer, the SP-C22. Watch any movie on a home theater system, and the center channel speaker is where 50% of the soundtrack comes from, including the majority of the dialogue. It keeps the sound anchored to the action on-screen.
The Pioneer SP-C22 speaker does the job in stunning fashion utilizing dual woofers in a full-sized cabinet for enhanced vocal performance. If you want your entertainment as real as it gets, the SP-C22 is one of the most important speakers you can own.
70 Years of Audio Firsts
This speaker comes with a remarkable pedigree of over 70 years of Pioneer audio heritage and industry firsts. Like every speaker Pioneer builds, the SP-C22 is engineered to offer incredible design and amazing sound quality.
Thinking Out Of The Box
The SP-C22 utilizes a true curved cabinet design resulting in a stiffer cabinet wall. This reduces standing sound waves inside, resulting in high-performance and striking sound quality. Elegant speaker grills do double duty by also doing a superior job of protecting the drivers. The SP-C22 is a genuine beauty in the service of exceptional audio reproduction.
The Inside Story
The job of the crossover in a speaker is to break the audio signal into low, high, and sometimes mid-range frequencies using circuitry like inductors and capacitors. While the competition uses a simple, low-cost single capacitor/inductor crossover, the SP-C22 utilizes a sophisticated 6-element, high-quality crossover. Dialogue is crisper. Car crashes are crunchier. Explosions are louder. It's one more way of insuring high quality and accurate sound reproduction from your favorite movies and events.
Whatever your system, the SP-C22-Center Channel Speaker is ready to step it up with authentic audio reproduction to bring your entertainment experience to the next level.
Highly acclaimed and award winning series of speakers designed by world-renowned speaker engineer Andrew Jones. The SP-C22 center channel speaker was designed to offer extraordinary performance and remarkable sound quality for music and home theater at an affordable price.

I noticed everybody in the house would turn up the volume during the dialogue, then turn the volume back down during the action. Also, my wife, who has excellent ears, would turn on closed-captioning for regular TV viewing. I decided the center was the weak link and it needed replacing. Since I had Pioneer towers, then why not the matching center?
I bought the center on Amazon (obviously). When it arrived — in prestine condition, I might add — all I did was swap it for the no-name center. There was an improvement, as the SP-C22 has 4.25” drivers (I think) versus the 3” drivers (measured) from the no-name.
After a while of listening I felt the Pioneer had more to give. I adjusted the crossover from the 100Hz I had the no-name set at to 80Hz. I also turn the receiver’s center gain down to 0dB from +3dB. Much better. Male voices had more texture and clarity, and female voices had more destinction and nuance.
Recently, I read that this center speaker is tuned to 70Hz as read on Audioholics.com. Furthermore, my matching towers are tuned to 50Hz. I had been using 80Hz all around. I made the change after my receiver’s room correction software co-signed on my findings. I’m glad I did. The sound is very, very nice.
The center is dead simple. The binding post are decent for a speaker in this price range. The curved body might have you looking elsewhere. Don’t. The SP-C22 comes with little rubber cradles to hold the speaker in position. The C22 is ported so be mindful what’s behind it. Mine sits directly on my entertainment center. My tv sits on a low profile riser so as not to be blocked by the C22.
This is a budget speaker where all the expense was used on the components that make the sound. It won’t wow your friends or add more elegance to your decor. What it will do is deliver solid sound without uglying up the viewing area.
For what it does, it deserves 5 stars. For what it is, I had to take away one star. Too bad I can’t give it an additional half star.
If you need a small(er) footprint center channel, do yourself a favor and give this Andrew Jones SP-C22 a try. It just may surprise the hell out of you, the way it did for us.
The picture shows our set up. The speakers are in the cages on either side of the television. The center channel (SP-C22) is in the cage directly below the television, and sits at face level when seated on our couch or peripheral seating. For reference, that is a 75" television.
I had problems hearing the dialogue with the old Yamaha. Now that is not a issue. Be advised that the speaker is much bigger, and I had to build a small stand for it to sit on. It couldn't sit on top of the TV stand in front of it anymore.
