Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Bay Area post-shoegaze sextet Whirr generates suspenseful songs of soothing, razor sharp guitar textures backed by soft, cooling vocals. On their full length debut ''Pipe Dreams'', the band's supercharged spirit rejuvenates the '90s shoegaze sound, providing a widescreen update for the post-millennial era. Whirr's wall of lush guitars, breathy vocals, dreamy synth and thunderous drumming propel listening ears into a near cinematic realm where instantly catchy melodies and emotional, enveloping atmospheres hang perfectly in the balance. The sound of Whirr is a totalizing crush when texture and volume hit perfect balance and bright pop melodies wander through dark, dense guitar noise. Twenty years after My Bloody Valentine awed music fans with its now-classic ''Loveless'' LP, Whirr takes hold of the reins and lets its fluid, immaculate surge of drones and reverberations light the way. The New Psychedelia has arrived! Whirr features guitarist Nick Bassett, also of celebrated post rock / black metal band Deafhaven whose debut album ''Roads To Judah'' was named as one of NPR s ''Best Metal Albums Of 2011''. Look for Whirr touring in the spring of 2012, including an appearance at the SXSW Festival.

Review

''Shoegazey gorgeousness'' --Brooklyn Vegan

''They have set the bar extremely high. It's shoegaze. It's loud as f***. It's really good.'' --Absolute Punk

''Whirl (Whirr) seem as if they've been playing together most of their lives, cocooned away honing their sound waiting for the right time to unleash their carefully orchestrated wares.'' --Drowned In Sound

Great album to have if you like ambient rock music. The guitar work on this album is crafted very well. There is a good bit of reverb with the instruments, but they don't go too crazy with it. The vocals can be pretty hard to get cause they've been buried pretty deep in the mix, but the vocal melodies are awesome. It's a shame Alexandra Morte isn't in the band anymore. Perfect especially for a long drive on the road!

2nd album from San Francisco band is a 4AD-ish blast of atmospheric feedback heaven that
builds into epic, soaring crescendos before blasting into the celestial realm of beautifully
aggressive, melodic indie shoegaze pop. Hauntingly sublime, dreamy, ethereal float-scapes with
bouncing feet. Shades of Lush, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus & Mary Chain,
Tallulah Gosh, Young Prisms, She Sir.

This the one to get. Their high point. Warning: If you see them live, they are VERY loud.

2nd Album sounds just like the first. In fact, all of their songs sound just alike. I thought only preschoolers like repetition, but apparently not, since this band seems to have fans.
