The writing is precise, the characters are fleshed out, and the plot is rather simple. This makes for a good, 'feel happy' read on any given afternoon. My only complaint is that it became far too obvious to me how the story would end up...it was a lovely fairy tale ending. If you are looking for a very deep complex romance, complete with angst and a twisty plot, look elsewhere. This is a read that has good feelings all around, but not overly complex. This is not a fault, just a fact! This is a cute romance read, through and through.
Thank you to the author for creating a great stand-alone book with a completed and very satisfying story and ending. Kudos for making that story clean while still having strong romantic tension; fantasy without the absurd; an impulsive heroin that grows on you as a reader vs. growing irritating.
I will definitely look into the other books in this series. (I would love to see Rigel's story...~!)
The tournaments were great, and I actually liked the lords a lot more than I thought I would. They gave depth to the story when she was spiriting away from her lady lessons to watch them all compete. Archer's story was good, and I liked the way he was built up. The sudden romance was a bit fast but that's not really something to complain about lol I just loved this so much. It was funny, interesting, and it really challenged the stereotypical characters. The ending was a bit too convenient for me, but otherwise I absolutely loved this.
When I first started reading this, I didn't like Pippa. AT ALL. She was annoying and had simply seemed like every other high-spirited princess, lady, etc who doesn't want to BE a lady. The further I read, though, the more I began to like her. Or it could be I became fascinated with the world and was more lenient about her character.
I would have liked to have seen more of her world, and more the fantasy elements.
Overall, not a horrible book to pass a few hours with.
I enjoyed strong minded & strong hearted Pippa, I soon approved of her love for Archer. I lived the tournament with Pippa that was to decide who would be the winner of her hand in marriage; it can not be Archer for He is simply that, an archer & she is a Princess.
Won't say more, this is a great story, hard to put down & I didn't until I read it through. Enjoy.
