It was a quirky, engaging and very entertaining read packed with action, adventure, mystery and romance. The story had an old fashioned feel to it at times - possibly down to Del and her music choices and how she lived her life, I'm not entirely sure - but I loved it. I laughed a lot during the read but it wasn't all fun times, there were some sad and serious events that shaped both our main characters.
Both leads were very likable and I was rooting for them from the off. Hank had a great sense of humour and his take on people and events tickled me. His persistence and determination to win Delilah round was endearing, while at the same time I could understand Del's hesitation and slight reluctance to become involved with him!
We were introduced to a whole host of characters that give us an idea of the kind of lives our couple lead.. When we first met Hank's friends they were young and total boys and it was interesting to see who they had grown and how they had changed now that they were older - but the one thing that stayed constant for this little gang was their loyalty and friendship.
Delilah's family seemed never ending (this for me is where I had to keep up and really pay attention, it could be quite easy to lose track of who's who at points). The love and support that they had for each other was obvious and you didn't doubt for a second that they would do anything for each other. Look out for Freud, Del's beloved dog, he's nigh on human at points in his mannerisms and behaviour!!Read more ›
This is the story of Hank Huckleberry Rivers, who as a child, along with his friends, witnessed several murders beneath their tree house. So he vows to always do the right thing and ends up becoming the District Attorney of Tupolo, Mississippi. But sometimes what you plan to do in life, isn't what life has planned for you.
"Now, what's going on again?" Hank said, his mind slowly starting to turn on. "A bunch of women robbers. They're taking over the country with their stealthy and hot ways." Dylan laughed.
And when Hank and Curly find themselves in one of the banks the women rob, Hank's life is turned upside down!
A bunch of women? Hank could hardly believe it. These were no ordinary bank robbers. No, that would be a crime in itself to even try to call them that - these were simply she-devils on heels. Hank could tell.
This is a sweet romance, with funny, laugh out loud parts, and will keep you wondering exactly what is going on until the very end.
And true to Ms. Welch's style, she does not disappoint with her beautifully descriptive writing. It will make you feel like you are in the story.
As soon as their feet touched a field filled with overgrown grass, the moon seemed to claim the sky, blasting the night risers with energy and vigor. Crickets were singing, croaking bullfrogs were complaining. A slow, warm wind was blowing. Lightening bugs rose and fell like they were made of helium, in and out of the stalks of flourishing grass. An owl fluttered in a tree nearby, a soft whoo whoo floating above them every so often.Read more ›
