I was laughing out loud throughout the whole thing. Most satires/parodies I've read tend to go over the top and take things too far. Ms. Bowersock didn't do that. She does a wonderful job of giving just enough absurdity without crossing the line into the unbelievable.
I really don't know how to write a review because there was just soooo much I liked about this book. It's friggin' hysterical! If you like satire or historical romance or romance of any kind, you'll love this book. -- Kara Leigh Miller, karaleighmiller.com/2013/03/book-review-pits-of-passion.html
From the Inside Flap
"Well, my dear," he said, coming closer. "Let us see how badly your dress was damaged."
He plucked at the shreds of lace Elizabeth tried to hold together across her heaving bosom. She felt his fingers probing, stroking her tender flesh, and all her blood seemed to rush boiling to her head. She gasped and stared up into those cool, icy eyes, her mouth open to protest, but he silenced her easily with a savage, bruising kiss. His lips were like burning brands on hers, searing her flesh until she could almost smell the smoke. Her blood pounded in her head and at the same time she realized his blood was pounding somewhere else. Feeling confused and panic-stricken, she tried to wriggle away from his embrace of steel but her attempts only enflamed him more. Weakly she tried to push him away, but when she succeeded in creating a slight gap between them, her dress slipped from her shoulders to the floor.
"I'm very good at buttons with my right hand," he said huskily and pulled her closer again.

The Pits of Passion is an unbelievable, hilarious tale and an enjoyable, easy read. Captivating from the get-go, this novel will take you on the ride of your life! Elizabeth's journeys will enable you to ride the high seas with her and her twin lovers, and laugh at the predicaments in which she both finds and loses herself. I have never read a novel quite like this one; The Pits of Passion is in a class of its own! ... Congratulations, Melissa, (aka Amber Flame) for doing what so many writers fail to do! Also, thanks for the autographed copy of The Pits of Passion; I treasure it!
