Beginning in 1960s small-town Kentucky and concluding in 2007 Chicago, Pixels is the story of an artist's resilience and growing self-awareness bound within the story of a life-long love.
From the beginning of his life through his early 40s, Klaus Mueller struggles with the big questions--family, faith, truth, justice, friendship, love, and loss. Simultaneously, Klaus' experiences, personality, and many artistic, philosophical, and personal influences continue to shape him. Through gratitude and grumbling, stubbornness and delight, we follow Klaus as he begins to make sense--and art--out of his life.
Klaus takes a road through life that is difficult--and which he self-admittedly sometimes makes more so. But, as he says in regard to playing baseball, "The big chance to make a great play could come on any pitch, and [he] lived for that excitement."
Klaus is fascinated by the journey. Most often, he expresses this delight in agile word play, coining new words (e.g., "magicurious," "sheeple") and combining synonyms (e.g., "crossifixion") or phonically similar words and phrases. Sometimes his audioverbal musings erupt into slightly salty or delightfully home-spun witticisms (e.g., "You could break your leg or break a record. His dad once said he was so broke he could not pay attention").
Most of all, readers will appreciate Klaus' basic open-heartedness toward the world he encounters, including, finally, himself.
I look forward to more good works from this excellent artist.
Rock On Jerry Schwartz!
I actually put it in a song of my own, "I want you to see me--I want you to hear me--just another nobody." But of course we're not really nobodies. Whether we make it or not we do affect those who come in contact with us, some more, some less. We really do. And some of us will even achieve success as the society of the world measures its artists. Many of us will not.
Jerry Schwartz tells the story of one of us with an engaging and entertaining style. I liked the presentation, in which the narrator knows very little more than the character knows. So the reader gets the story straight, so to speak, whether it is from Mueller as a pre-schooler, Mueller as a member of the work force, or Mueller the multi-talented artist. Does he make it? You'll have to read it to find out.
Well written and relevant, even spiritual in a notably subtle way, I most surely recommend it. Four stars for the very fine debut effort. I think Schwartz is capable of better yet.
Fast forward he moves to Chicago, IL he finds a career & becomes a father. Klaus is still not thoroughly happy with his current lifestyle.
You can actually listen to Jerry Schwartz (The Jerry’s) music online for .69 a song @ [...] or better yet [...]
It’s amazing since I have started reading regular PPL’s books instead of college textbooks how many others struggle besides musicians, such as writers & artists. 9 to 5 is that really what we want out of our life?
Cool book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written true to life book. It was very easy to read/follow & never a dull moment from start/finish. No grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. A lot of enlightening scenarios & a host of great characters. This could make a great movie or TV series. A book you must read to the end. No doubt in my mind a very easy rating of 5 stars for this book.
Thank you for the free book

As I read, I was reminded of all those dreams we each have as children and how too many of those dreams, due to adult responsibilities, are snuffed out as we age. Pixels of Young Mueller is a wonderful reminder that we shouldn't give in so easily.
