Product Description

Cooking pizza from scratch is becoming more popular among enthusiasts and the economically-minded alike. Making pizza at home leaves you free to experiment, select the best ingredients, and save the money you'd have spent tipping the delivery guy.

This Pizzacraft baking stone is perfect for pizza, bread, pastries and other food, eliminating hot spots while cooking, and producing a uniformly browned crust. Just like food baked in a professional brick-lined oven – but it's from your kitchen or grill.

This stone is also convenient for heating and re-heating ready-made frozen pizzas and baked goods. Easy to maintain as the stone requires no seasoning or conditioning. Thermal shock resistant.

HOW TO USE: For best results, pre-heat oven to 500° F (260° C) and place stone in middle of oven on lowest rack. If using a grill, preheat to same temperature and place on middle of grill for 30 minutes. When it is time to bake, dust stone with cornmeal before placing baked goods on top. For fresh pizza, a flat metal spatula or a pizza peel dusted with cornmeal works well for transferring food to the baking stone. Alternatively, wearing an oven mitt or glove, remove the hot stone from the oven, place pizza on the stone and return both to the oven or grill.

This baking stone can be used for bread, pizza and other baked goods. Please keep in mind that some foods, such as bread and pizza, will do well baked directly on the stone, while others may require a thin layer of foil between the food and the surface of the stone. The layer of foil will promote optimal baking for certain types of food such as cookies.

CARE: This cordierite baking stone is extremely durable and will not crack because of thermal shock. There is no need to soak the stone in water before use.

To clean, scrape off any excess food with a spatula. When the stone has cooled, run it under hot water while scrubbing with a brush. Do not use soap on the stones as it may leave a soapy aftertaste. The natural properties of the baking stone will cause it to darken and spot with age – do not attempt to remove this discoloration. Air-dry the stone and store inside the oven.

PLEASE NOTE: This pizza stone contains cordierite, a natural mineral that strengthens thermal shock resistance. This is why your stone will not crack during high-heat use. Some people find that the first time they heat the stone, there is an odor. The smell comes from cordierite and will disappear with use. It is non-toxic.

PLEASE NOTE: This baking stone was updated in 2015 and now measures 20" by 13.5" by .67" Inches. The width of the stone remains the same, but the length was reduced by 2.5 inches. These changes were made in response to customer feedback that the stone was too long for many standard ovens. The 20" long stone can now fit in most ovens. We also boosted the stone's thickness to make it even more durable. We're glad we were able to make these changes for our customers.

100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEED. Pizzacraft Will Replace or Refund If You Have Any Concerns

Note -- I'm actually not using this as a pizza stone, but rather to help regulate temperature in my oven. I live in an apartment with a cheap gas stove and I was constantly burning the bottoms of my cookies and other delicate foods. I saw a cooking show where the host put bricks in his oven to help keep a consistent temperature, and I realized that I could use a pizza stone for the same thing. This one has worked great for that; it's big enough to cover almost the entire bottom rack of the oven and has a lot of mass. I covered the entire thing in heavy-duty aluminum foil to keep it clean if anything drips on it and leave it in there. I have definitely seen a difference in my oven's performance. It does take longer to heat up, but the stone deflects the heat evenly so the bottoms of dishes are no longer burning before the rest has a chance to cook. I realize this isn't the traditional use for this product, but wanted to add a review in case anyone else is considering it for the same reasons.

I have owned this stone for a month and it still smokes and stinks up the house. I have used it at least a dozen times and the smell will not go away. I will stay away from stones made with cordierite.

Thank you for taking the time to review our product. We are very sorry to hear about your experience. I'd like to take a moment to address your concerns.

You stated that your Pizzacraft PC0102 20 x 13.5 Rectangular Cordierite Baking/Pizza Stone gives off a strong smell even after several uses. You wrote that this experience has discouraged you from using cordierite baking stones.

I am so sorry to hear that you experienced this. It must have been very inconvenient and uncomfortable to deal with the smells coming from the stone, especially over repeated uses.

We try to educate customers about all our products before purchase, and we are sorry that we were not able to get accurate information to you before you bought your stone.

As you're aware, this stone contains cordierite, a natural mineral that strengthens thermal shock resistance. This is why your stone will not crack during high-heat use. Some people find that the first time they heat the stone, there is an odor. Ideally, this non-toxic smell will disappear with use.

However, it sounds like the smell from your stone has not gone away after many uses. We're truly sorry this was the case for you, and we are happy to send you a replacement right away, free of charge of course. It's likely that a replacement stone would not create as much of a smell. We really would like to be able to respond to your concerns in the way that makes sense to you.

Please contact us at your earliest convenience at info@pizzacraft.com. If you prefer, you can also reach us on the phone at 1-866-682-2060. Or you can let us know how we can get in touch with you. We look forward to speaking with you.

I bought this pizza stone to bake artisanal breads in my oven. My smaller Pizzacraft stone did well but it was too small for my longer loaves. This new stone fit my GE profile oven perfectly, allowing a once inch margin for the steam from my roasting pan to get through the entire oven and give my loaves a nice crunchy crispy crust! It works very well and I am pleased with it. I leave it in the oven whenever I bake or even when I clean my oven on the self-clean oven. Love it!

I had read most of the reviews about the "Pizzacraft 22.5" x 13.5" Rectangular Cordierite Baking/Pizza Stone - PC0102" being too large to fit most 30" ovens. I was prepared to wet saw the stone to about 20.5 to fit my oven and leave about 3/4" all around. But I received my stone 20 x 13.5. THAT'LL WORK!! The box it came in stated that it was 20 x 13.5. So I'm happy but be careful, evidently your size results may vary.

I was looking for a pizza stone that would be large enough to put two home made pizza's on it and this one is perfect. It fits across the entire width of my oven. I have used it a few times, and it seems to work great. It did give off some chemical odor at first, which seems less now. This is the reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I believe it is made of "cordierite" which, as far as I know, is considered the best material for a pizza stone.

If you use a gas oven and the heat only comes from the bottom - this stone is just what you need. Unlike how it says you should use it, you can put the stone on the *top* shelve in the oven, constantly. Then when you use the oven make sure you give a little longer time to warm up - the stone will be acting like a second heat source at the top and produce better and even baked goods.Try it!! I love it.

works great for pizza. place at the highest level in your oven for pizzas, rather than the middle, as the manufacturer advises... then - leave it in the oven while cooking other stuff and it will moderate the oven temp swings, yet not be in the way.
