This short story is a facetious take on the ideas of Heaven and Hell, angels and God. If you feel like having fun reading about Purgatory and Limbo, then this story may be right up your alley. If you are more serious about the above-mentioned things, you might not be a fan of A Place To Go.
From the beginning the author managed to make me sympathize with the main character, Dex. I really liked that he kept worrying about his "friends", although they didn't deserve it. I also like the fact that no one knows where Dex belongs. And I enjoyed the ending.
The main drawback here is lack of imagery. There is too much telling at the beginning. As a result, I couldn't get a picture of where the character was, where he went. The author uses the phrase "reached his/their destination" and I don't get where Dex has come as there are no descriptions of where he is. I also struggled with visualizing "creature-like figures" below in the ravines.
The Devil's wife was such a useless character. First, why -- if Naspinski is the Devil's wife -- did Dex call her "Miss" Naspinski if the Devil told him to call her "Mrs. Naspinski"? Even if I can put up with a pussy cat devil, I can't get his wife. She failed as a character because she hasn't shown how evil she is. They just walked somewhere with Dex, and next moment the voice announces that Dex should go to some other place.
To me, Miss Mason is a much more important character, but we don't get any kind of explanation of who she is. I'd rather find out more about her and about how she ended up in Limbo.
3.5 stars and thanks to the author for a good read.

So I wasn't sure what to think of this book at first. It started off slow but really picked up. It reminded me a little of one of the sequels to Dantes inferno which I loved.Published 17 months ago by Ashley Barnett
