I decided on this version after looking at several others on line. We have received it, and I am very happy with it so far. I am only 50 pages in. I'll come back and amend this review if needed once I've read the entire book.

It seems to run true to its original but reads more like a novel; the author doesn't seem to take liberties with interpretation. The author doesn't talk down to the reader. The book doesn't come across as childish, and yet, it appeals to the younger set.

It is not an attempt to paraphrase. It is more of a successful attempt to write the book in modern English thereby making it easier to read.

My daughter (14) understands this version much better, and reads it on her own. She is able to comprehend what she is reading which pleases me since I purchased it specifically for her.

It's a great edition to any library and very helpful.

As a former seminary teacher and now gospel doctorine teacher, this "guide" makes reading the Book of Mormon much easier and understandable. It's like have a scriptorian next to you explaining what you just read, and yet, it is written with flow, like a novel, so you don't want to put it down. I finished the whole Book of Mormon in one week. I have a more vivid understanding and mental references now. I completed the prophets challenge. I can't wait to read this 2-3 times a year. It is not like other scriptures "re-written" losing translation, this is "right on", and has the same spirit of revelation attending you as it is when you are reading from the Book of Mormon.

I really like this book because it makes the stories easy to understand. A word of caution: the book contains chapters that line up with the real book, but not verses. It tells the complete story in the chapter, which is great. But if you wanted to know which verse they got a certain concept from, you will have to go back through the BOM itself and guess which verse it was referring to. If a chapter has 60 verses, that is a challenge. If you don't have any reason to match us verses to the chapters, then this is perfect. It is good for getting the just of the story understood. If you are studying though, I would say the lack of verse references makes it difficult.

This has been an amazing help. I ordered this book and am currently in the last 10 pages. It's only been a couple weeks. I couldn't put it down. It made reading and understanding the gospel taught in the Book of Mormon a tremendous help and actually not just understand it, but get excited about it. Nothing else has worked to give me a testimony of the Book of Mormon like this has. This is the only time in 30+ years that I have even gotten past 1st nephi when trying to read all the way through. And here I am almost finished in less than 20 days. Don't hesitate to get. It reads like a book which I found so engaging. My only complaint is that there isn't one for the KJV Bible (LDS) too!!! Hint hint author!! I'm dying to read more!

When I first read the Book of Mormon all the way through, I had this "Plain English Reference" with me the whole time. It does not bill itself as a replacement for the real thing. Which I agree with, as I think that some of the character and message of the Book of Mormon is lost in making it "plain English." However, I found this book invaluable in helping to keep me motivated while reading and to clarify passages that contained enough archaic phrasing to make quick understanding more difficult. While I would definitely not recommend using this in place of the real thing (something the author also does not appear to recommend), it is a handy way to make the Book of Mormon more easily digestible when being read through in its entirety.

I do wish that the verse numbers had been included. I understand these were excluded for fear that their inclusion would make this book appear more of a replacement for the Book of Mormon than a guide to it. However, I think they would be very helpful in guiding readers directly to specific spots in the text. Perhaps verse numbers could be added in future additions—even if they're just general verse guide numbers in the margins next to each paragraph?

I purchased this book out of interest. Not being a member of the LDS church or the like, just interested in reading the book of mormon. The translation is a kind of 'good news translation', i.e, much easier language to read and understand. One critisism, and mentioned by one of the reviewers from the US amazon site, is that amongst the chapters there are no verse indicators, except at the top of the page, which gives the genenral location where the actual 'verse' would be found in the general book of mormon. Hence, whilst the book reads like more of a novel, I feel verses amongst the text (as they easily do in good news bibles) would have made the book even better.
