Ingredients

Sodium Chloride (mineral flow agent and carrier). Sodium Carbonate (mineral alkalinity adjuster and water softener). Laureth-7, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (plant-based cleaning agents). Sodium Tetraborate Pentahydrate (mineral stabilizer). Hydrated Silica (mineral flow agent and stabilizer). Sodium Silicate (mineral corrosion inhibitor). Cellulose Gum (plant-based anti-redeposition agent). Water.

Directions

1. Sort clothing separating dark colors and whites, and separating heavily soiled items from lightly soiled items to avoid color and soil transfer. Pre-treat any large or dark stains just prior to laundering. 2. Measure and add detergent to tub. Do not use washer’s dispensing cups. Measure to 3 oz. fill line for regular/large load. For HE washers, us half this amount. 3. Select appropriate color and temperature settings. 4. Add laundry to washer, distributing cloths evenly

It is what it is, does what it's supposed to do, and does it well.

Some reviewers have complained of a "tie-dye" effect or white splotches on dark items. This is a problem ONLY IN HARD WATER, because the product contains no phosphates. If you use unsoftened well water or live in certain western states, you may have this issue. When I spoke to Dianna at Planet (800-858-8449), she was able to look up my town and state and tell me that my water supply is soft. She's very helpful and a pleasure to talk to. So, if you're in doubt or have any other questions, you might want to give her a call.

I liked this detergent a lot at first

I liked this detergent a lot at first. My clothes seemed clean when washed in cold water, they had no scent, and the price was decent (for a very green detergent that's recommended by ewg.org). But I've been noticing that, after just one or two washes, every single dark tee shirt has faded in blotches... every black, every medium to dark blue, every purple. I've never had this happen with an old-fashioned detergent like Wisk (that, alas, is not highly rated by ewg.org). I have several boxes of Planet to use up, and I'll happily use them on whites and light colors, but I've gone back to Wisk for all darks. I wish this weren't the case -- I want to use green products -- but I've had to donate too darned many dark-colored tee shirts to Goodwill since I've started using Planet.

TOXIC!!

Over a year ago I researched laundry detergents wanting to find one that was natural, safe, and eco friendly. I visited Environmental Working Group's site and Planet came back with a rating of A, so I decided to order from Amazon. Just yesterday I was sharing with a friend about what laundry detergent I use and told her it was rated well in and went to EWG's site. I discovered that it is now rated an F with some concern about cancer, reproductive and developmental toxicity. I am appalled!! I ordered this detergent thinking it was safe to use for my infant sons clothes. I immediately cancelled my subscribe and save and am in the process of trying to send a full box (containing 4 boxes) and a half used box back. I'm switching to Seventh Generation Powder Free and Clear.

Great for cloth diapers, now using on all our clothes

After struggling with other products like RockinGreen for our cloth diapers, and still having problems with diaper rashes in a 2 year old, we switched to the less expensive Planet Detergent. I haven't had any issues since. It gets the diapers clean. I know that because they smell like nothing. No perfume, no "clean smell", just nothing. Clean doesn't have a smell, so that's perfect.

It's worked so well, that I've switched to using it for all of our family laundry, with great results.

One recommendation. If you are switching to this for cloth diapers, before determining if this detergent is working for you, do a strip of your diapers with RLR Laundry Treatment (Pack of 10). This will remove a lot of the buildup of other detergents and hard water and make your diapers more absorbent again.

Great for sensitive skin like eczema.

I used to use Tide Free and Clear powder, but this stuff is better. It's a very fine powder, and doesn't seem to absorb moisture from the air and clump the way Tide does. Add in the attention to environmental issues and the reasonable price, and I'm sold!

EDIT: When I was first buying it, it doesn't absorb moisture and clump, but for more recent boxes it clumps like crazy, and that's at all times of year. It's still my detergent of choice, but I'm lowering it to four stars because of the clumping issue.

I feel better knowing I'm using a non toxic detergent

I'm pretty natural/organic when it comes to my style of living. I have 1 daughter and when pregnant with her, I wanted to make sure I was seeking out the best products that were non toxic so when she was born, I'd be making sure her exposure to chemicals and toxins were limited (as far as what I can control).
It gets my clothes clean. It does not have scent not do I use anything that does. Scents are synthetic so I just add essential oils to my dryer balls (another great product to use in place of dryer sheets) if I'm looking to have a fresh smell to my clothes.
I usually buy the 4 pack as its the best bang for the buck. This used to be a S&S option. I hope that that returns!!!!!
If you're a parent looking to "clean up" your home products so your family has less exposure to harmful chemicals, know that this is a quality product that you can feel good about switching to.

Passes the cloth diaper test

We use this on cloth diapers and it's the only natural one I've found that really does a good job (others leave them a bit stinky). Then it works great on our clothes as well. Just be site to use more on the diapers and put it in first with the water, let it fill a little, them add the laundry. Otherwise you might notice some residue on your clothes.
