My first experience with them was with Planet Waves Custom Series and Circuit Breaker guitar cables, which include these. Oddly, the American Stage series cables do not. The cable diameter on those is a little smaller, which might be the reason. Whatever, I put one of these on it and it works fine. But that brings up a point- these won't fit every cable you have. Monoprice mic cables are too fat for example. Most of my IEC power cables are also to fat. But most of my mic and instrument cables fit the little plastic grip just fine. The plastic grip is really only suitable for round cables; I've got a few stereo breakout cables and DC power suppy cables that aren't suitable for these.
One other note- these work best on 8-10' or so longer cables as the elastic bungee loop needs to stretch a little too hold. Other cables are probably best with Velcro strips that attach or Bongo ties.
I wanted to buy some immediately but, at that time, they were not available for sale from PW. Then one day, Amazon, in its often creepy customer tracking intuitiveness, popped them up on my interest list and BAM! I bought a pack of them.
They clip right on to standard sized cables with a "hair band" elastic loop that wraps around the cord then attaches to an indented hook-like part of the clip. Ingenious! I have seen people use actual hair bands with a large, plastic, festively colored ball attached. They work too but the PW cable ties are not as noticeable.
I dinged them a star only because the attaching clips are too small for larger cables and too large for thinner cables. Although they still are functional (they still wrap and hook around odd sized cords) you may loose them being that they are not clipped to the cable. I'd buy more clip sizes PW, thnx!
I only started using these a few months ago and they are MUCH better than messing around with velcro. But I noticed today that the woven cover is pulling away from the elastic end on one of these ties. That means the rest will probably go that way. I expected them to be more durable than that.
Buy them, they work, but expect to replace them with light to moderate use. Disappointing.
Being a neat freak I had to find a way to make all of my cables and connection nice and pretty. These little guys are just awesome!
Just snap them on the cable and loop around. There's not much to it.
The rubber band never loose its tension even after months (even years) of binding twelve or more cables. It holds it's strength very good!
I bet these would come handy in every office or home situation where cables are need to be neatly organised.
Also, I saw some reviews saying that these won't work with every cable. While this might be true for really thick cable you can always try to "pursued" you cable into the plastic holder. (It will not damage the cable in any way). Or you can use these snapping a cable into the holder. Just loop the rubber band around a bunch of cables just like that.
Would definitely buy more.
