I live in Tampa Bay and all of the guitar shops and the repair people keep telling me that "With the high humidity you have no need to use a humidifier, and you do not need to keep your instrument in the case to protect it from drying out. WRONG WRONG WRONG !!!!!
If you live in Da swamp with an old creeky window style AC unit perhaps there will be enough humidity in the air..
The modern Whole house units will pull your humidity down to 40% or lower. We have a fresh 20 SEER AC that brags about the dehumidification power of the unit. After all de-humidifying is most of what your AC is doing, pulling moisture from the air to make you feel cool.
My Hygrometer shows 38% at night and 40% during the day. Martin tells me that is way too low for my guitars. 45%-55% is considered ideal. If you are not sure get a Hygrometer and be sure, do not take chances. D'Addario humidifier works well and will slowly release moisture just do not go overboard. Fill it and let it sit then shake it out till there are no droplets at all. slap it against your leg shake it hard, then feel it. Just make sure that what is in it will be held by the sponge. Check it every few days. And put a Hygrometer in your case.

If the sponge isn't dripping wet you should never have a problem with drops of water in the guitar or case. When the humidity is very low (30% or less) the sponge dries out in 2 to 3 days even if the case isn't opened. As with most humidifiers of this type you will have to check every few days.
If you have ever had a crack appear in the top of favorite guitar (or don't want to see one) use a guitar humidifier! Especially during the winter - heating a house tends to drop the indoor humidity below safe levels (between 45% and 60% is ideal for most guitars). Air conditioning can do the same. For especially valuable guitars it would be worth buying a hygrometer to keep in the case but for most guitars having one in the room where you keep you guitar(s) is okay. For many reasons it's always best to keep your guitar in a case or gig bag when not in use. A humidifier is inexpensive extra precaution at those times of year when temperature or humidity changes quickly.
I have tried the gel packs, too, but I like the sponge better than the gel packs. The gel packs dried out quickly, and I was uncomfortable with throwing them away so frequently. It seemed wasteful, and not terribly thoughtful to the environment. I liked the sponge because it was re-usable, and much less expensive than the gel systems.
The warranty is only 90 days or so, so I am out of luck on getting repair or replacement. I hate to spend even a small amount of money, as in this purchase, only to have the product become unusable so quickly.
