It's not about numbers
Planting Growing Churches for the 21st Century is not about how many people you can get through the church doors on Sunday morning, but about planting and growing spiritually healthy churches that are equipped to reach today's unchurched generation. With vision, purpose, and practical advice, Aubrey Malphurs carefully leads you through the six stages of a new church, including funding, creating a strong servant leadership, and establishing values. The church planters workbook will help you implement the book's contents into your own unique ministry situation, showing you how to develop a focus group, recruit a leadership team, and implement small groups.
This third edition of a popular and practical hands-on guide will inspire, encourage, and equip ministry leaders.
"Perhaps one of the most comprehensive, instructive, and inspiring books on the subject of American church planting written to date."--Missiology

While "Planting Growing Churches" is typically aimed at church planters or students, I have found that it would be just as well placed in every pastor's library of ready reference works. Let me explain. First, I was blessed to be part of Ed Stetzer's first Nehemiah Project class at Southern Seminary and the cohort of that class includes several now renowned pastors such as Daniel Montgomery of Louisville, Kentucky's Sojourn and others, including myself, who have successfully planted new congregations. Second, I am also a pastor of an existing congregation outside the Bible belt, albeit one in need of healthy growth, and understanding the information Malphurs offers in this book have been helpful in both areas. The book contains as much solid wisdom for the existing church pastor as it does for starting new work. When one plants a new congregation, they soon discover that starting a new church is only the first phase; one must also grow that church in a way that meets the Scriptural mandates for God's "called out ones" and in ways that press forward the missional church planting DNA to new church starting projects. This book comes highly recommended in that it meets all of those needs.
I FIRST BOUGHT THIS BOOK YEARS AGO THIS IS THE GREATEST MANUEL BESIDES OF COURSE THE WORD OF GOD ON CHURCH PLANTING CHURCHES. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO THE SERIOUS CHURCH PLANTER FROM ANY DENOMINATION.
