How to use Plantonix Coco Bliss
Directions
- Lay briquette down flat somewhere with good drainage.
- Slowly pour warm water over briquette allowing water to absorb without runoff. Let briquette sit for 30-40 minutes.
- Break apart with hands until light and spongy.
Suggestions
When using coco peat as growing medium, we highly recommend buffering of the product. This process involves pre-soaking the coir for 12-24 hours with a buffering solution high in calcium; this displaces the sodium and balances the naturally occurring potassium. After the soaking period the media is washed with water, this removes the displaced sodium, leaving the calcium in the coir.
Tips
- Warmer the water, the faster and easier is the expansion.
- Do not use hot water over 100 degrees Fahrenheit

Our Goal...
is to provide you with the gift of a healthy, organic farm or garden, free of unnatural and harmful additives.

I have not used this yet in my homemade potting soil. I expect excellent results. I will report back if I experience negative results.
Edit: The pictures reflect 2 bricks mixed with enough water to make it light and fluffy.

I store these in the freezer. When ready to use, I put the brick under a slow faucet for about 10 minutes until it is done expanding. Then I put it in a spin dryer to remove excess water (only 1/4 brick at a time if using a countertop spin dryer), bake it at 215 in a big aluminum tub (sold in supermarkets, used for baking turkeys). I add a little sphagnum moss just to give it a little structure.
I like this because it mimics their natural environment outdoors better than paper bedding. It does take a while to dry it, but I found if I use the convection fan in the oven and stir it a lot, it helps speed things up. I only dry 1/4 brick at a time.
I recommend drying it out really well and using a thin layer, like maybe an inch. Otherwise it gets this white coating. I researched this online and it isn't mold. I can't remember the official name, but apparently it's harmless. I'd still rather not see it, though. It's more likely to develop the thicker the layer. Also I make sure to move the food dish around to a different location so that the coir under it can get air.
My guys really enjoy moving it around. I like that it's organic and is a natural substance. If I see them nibbling on it, I don't worry.
Here's a video of Woodstock working construction.
Very pleased.
EDIT: I changed this from 5 stars to 3 just because of the price. Just a month or so ago, I could buy 10 bricks at once for about $3.00+ per brick. Now they only sell them in quantities of 2 for about $10/brick.
I noticed they added a new product which is a 10 pound slab. I bought this and it's impossible to break it into manageable pieces. I even tried a hacksaw and a Sawzall which didn't work and just made a mess. I really wish they would continue to offer these bricks in large quantities for a good price.
