The Headphones are well put together, extremely light, and fairly comfortable. The sound quality is also pretty good. So far the headphones also seem durable. Microphone is useless, was hoping to use it but not entirely upset about it. I would not buy another set if these were to break, but they do what I need them to do and do not regret the purchase. My previous headphones were turtle beach and the RIG headphones give me just as good if not better experience since these are lighter and the cable is much shorter, price is cheaper and the sound quality is good.
It is very light, I can wear it all day and forget I am wearing it. Which is good for use not at the computer. Even though they are bulkier than earbuds these headphones are light enough to use during a daily commute.
Good sound quality that has lasted over the months so far.
Comfy around ear cushioned cup, fits my large ears and I can wear all day without having a problem.
Can be mostly disassembled for transport, the the two speakers, microphone, head band, outer plastic structure all separate from each other.
Cord is not too long, I use for laptop which is either on top of my desk or in my lap.
The microphone seems to be useless, I cannot seem to get it to be recognized as a recording device, even if I unplug it from the headphones into the microphone jack in the computer.
This next point could be good for some people, there is no noise or sound reduction from outside the headphones. While wearing the headphones I can have a conversation with people around me and hear them perfectly not muffled as if I were not wearing the headphones at all. Which means other people can have conversations around me and I hear everything as well. Could be useful if you want to pretend you are not listening to other peoples' conversations but for me this just means I need to actively ignore my surroundings while also focusing on my games.
A few things to watch out for;
The cables for this headset are pretty thin. I did not like the look of the flimsy connections to the ear cups when I first got it. I mixed a little quick dry epoxy and dabbed it around all of those connections to reinforce. I've never had an issue with them.
These ear cups are circular, not oval, and there is very little padding inside the ring of the cups over the speakers. Those two factors can make wearing this headset for longer than an hour or two difficult. It can make your ears soar. As a solution I cut two circular pieces of cloth from an old medium weight T-shirt, removed the circular pad/speaker covers from the ear cups, laid the fabric circles over the center of the ear cup, and slid the padding back on over. It was a bit of a process, but well worth 20 min for the extra comfort. I can now easily wear these for 4-5 hours before I experience discomfort.
Overal, I would recommend the RIG 500HC if budget is on the mind, you are looking for a light weight, comfortable fit headphone with decent audio and chat capabilities.
