However, there has been issues with the material quality. The sewed seams on the inside the of the comfy earcups failed... the foam got exposed as the leather seams came apart. Hey, that's an easy fix: I got some black thread and a sewing needle and put my ghetto sewing skills to work. It looks ugly but the seams are super reinforced with loads of black thread that it's impossible to come apart now. That was in mid 2015. Now a problem showed up that made me want to write this review. The plastic collar of the upper part of the swivel on the left headband has cracked... suddenly, it failed from mechanical stress I'm guessing. I'm in Vancouver and I haven't brought it outdoors in the past half year so I'm ruling out temperature stress. Well... I don't have a solution for fixing this new problem...
That being said, would I buy it over 16 months ago knowing what I know now? Yes I still would have. Functionally, this is amazing. But material quality and construction left much to be desired for the price point.
UPDATE January 2017.
Well, the material really went to crap. Leather is flaking off everywhere, the sewed seams on the outside of the earcups have somehow come undone, the battery life is only good for 2 hours or so with constant need for charging... Was this worth US$249.99 at time of purchase? If I knew the material issues were like this, I'd have chosen something else at this price range. It's like they spray-painted a leather coating onto a cheap fabric on the headband. Stay away. You'll find much better value elsewhere.
I bought these because my daughter broke my old Senheiser headphones and I'm starting to travel again. I won't pay $350 for Bose but these did a great job of cancelling noise on the plane. The only reason that they don't get 5 stars is that they hurt my ears after wearing for an hour or so. Maybe my ears are too big?!? I'll have to ask someone. Maybe everyone has been too afraid to tell me over the years. However, this is a really good set of headphones - especially if you have little ears! Attached is a picture of the ear cup compared to my last headphones, the Senheisers. You can see that the Plantronics are round and shorter from ear top to ear bottom while the Senheiser is elongated like your ear. These earphones really do hurt after a while. I'd give them three stars but won't because this may be only a problem for me.
I have never used the plugin for listening, I only use the wireless function. It works for me.
My only complaint is that the material on the ear pads and headset are breaking down. I just ordered replacements. I expect better quality after paying over $150.
Sound: if you like base, you'll like these. If you like airy sounding jazz or chamber music, maybe not. But I listen to everything from 50's music to classic rock, to Pentatonix, to Vivaldi, and it all sounds better than I've ever heard. I'm hearing things in the music that I haven't heard before. I believe that if you have taste in music similar to mine, you'll love the sound of these headphones.
Controls: Outstanding. First of all, the volume and forward and back controls are large dials surrounding the soeaker housing. They are intuitive and easy to use. I love that you turn a dial which increases and decreases volume in relatively small increments making it easier to fine turn what you hear. Forward and reverse are a short twist to engage. The pause is the large button in the center of the dial on the left phone -- you can't miss it. And I love that it automatically pauses when you remove the phones and starts up gain when you put them back on. What a great concept!
DNC: When I have music paying and DNC on, I can't hear a thing other than my music, even with the TV turned up. When the music is down, however, I can hear the TV, though it is fairly muted. If you use them for music, you'll be pleased, I think. If you just want to put them on to block noise, maybe not so much.
Battery life: Haven't had them long enough, but I haven't read anything so far that disputes the 24 hour batter life claim. Amazing.
Comfort: There are a lot of posts here talking about how heavy they are and that they are only minimally comfortable. I do not find this to be so. They fit my head and ears perfectly, and though they are not light, they are very well padded, and I have worn them, as I mentioned above, for several hours and they are just as comfortable now as they were when I started.
Bluetooth: they pair quickly and easily with no effort to my iPad and my Amazon Echo Dot at the same time. I can walk everywhere in the house using them, out on the deck, and even into the yard still connected. To sum up, I am more than satisfied with my Backbeat Pros, and look forward to many years of using them. I love the great base produced along with clear highs, and good mids. When I want a more open sound with a broader stage, I use my Audio Technica AIR AC700s which I have had for some time and still love using, but nothing beats walking around the house, out out to the deck, and into the yard using these excellent Bluetooth DNC Backbeat Pros.

--> Impossible to kill battery in one day
--> Great sound. My laptop have really bad Bluetooth, portable headphones loose connection when I am like 6 feet away and I got descent sound out of it.
--> Plantronics customer support is awesome. Got trouble, they will sent you new headphones and require you to send them yours
--> The cushions are not replaceable and poorly made. They got unglued in 4 month, so I had to bring them to professional to glue them back (before shot in photo) nicely. My theory glue is not sweat resistant since it happened by the end of summer, when I got more sweat. Not nice thing to have, but fixable. I will update in the year how skin holds up.
very happy with the purchase.
Edit after 2 months: Very good but the noise cancellation is nowhere around what Bose offers. If you are after noise cancellation, this is NOT the product you should be looking at....any noise above the slightest ones are surpassed by what this unit offers
I have purchased many plantronics headphones in the past and they have all performed admirably, at 1/4 the cost. I chose these as I expected the same with the advanced features.
40-45 feet is still good, I was just disappointed with the fact that it is not what it was shown..
The headphones are good for its sound with good base (nothing out of the world, but very good).. slightly heavy, despite the comfortable foaming, can't use for more than a couple of hours.. I personally listen to music almost all day long, so it may not be an issue for a regular/ normal user..
The battery life is superb..! I have used it for over 8 hours in the last 2 days, it still shows about half battery left. Noise Cancellation although I read mixed reviews before buying these, works perfectly. I tried using it on a busy street with a lot of traffic and honking.. I could only hear just the music and nothing else...!
The auto-pause is my favorite feature of these.. coz I am always on music, I have to pause often and I am glad I don't have to search for my music device looking to do it.. I just remove the headphones and place them on my neck..! :)
