It is hard to find this unit. The current model listing at Plantronics shows this as a discontinued model, and offers no alternative for wired phones in a simple home/office environment. The regular CS55 or CS50 looks the same, but there is no "adapter" available to connect to standard single line phones or wireless phone environments typical in the home.
It is a quality unit. Not inexpensive if found new, but worth the investment. Parts and service in the future........??? But mine is several years old, and still works flawlessly.
The sound quality is outstanding and the comfort good enough to wear all day (which I do). You have to dial from your phone or PC (as I do) then pick up the phone with the button on the headset (works very smooth). The mic and ear phone volume are adjustable, but the standard setting work very well.
I have been using it everyday (workday) for about 3 months and have not seen any drop off in the quality. If I have any knock on the product, it is range. My home office is at one end of my home and I can't walk throughout my entire house. I would say it is very effective up about 35-40 feet. After that, I can still hear fine, but people complain that my voice is breaking up. I probably could place the base a little higher and improve the range a bit. It's a minor annoyance.
Love the product and would highly recommend to the home office user.
Using the unit as a phone takes some getting used to. Every time you want to dial out you have to click on the headset and then the handset of your phone. To hang up requires the same. I'm still struggling with the sequence of turning which unit on first. It doesn't help that my handset is a 2-line phone so I have to pay close attention.
No one has complained about the sound quality but sometimes I can hear my voice echo on my end of the conversation. If I had to do it all over again I think I'd still buy it. It's much better than the Calisto unit which I found to be very annoying.
