From the Manufacturer
Plantronics Savi 740 lets you easily manage and switch between PC, desk phone, and even mobile calls up to 350 feet from your desk--all from a single wireless headset. Enjoy the comfort of this lightweight DECT headset and experience unlimited talk time with a swappable battery (additional batteries sold separately). The Savi 740 can be worn three different ways: over-the-ear, over-the-head, or behind-the-head to suit your personal style.
Communicate Easily Through Multiple Devices
With three-way, multi-device connectivity, the Savi 740 allows you to easily manage your PC, desk, and mobile phone calls (software may be required to get call control with certain softphones; see Plantronics.com for more information). The headset system automatically routes mobile audio to whichever device you pick up--headset or mobile phone. With the press of a button, you can easily transfer audio from the headset to the mobile phone, allowing you to leave the office and take calls on the road.
The system also enables you to join audio between any two of your three connected devices or conference in up to three additional Savi 740 headsets. Automatically subscribe a new headset to the base simply by docking it.
Wireless Range of 350 Feet with DECT
The Savi 740 comes equipped with DECT 6.0 technology, allowing you to talk hands free up to 350 feet away from the base. DECT offers exceptional audio quality and is designed to eliminate interference from Wi-Fi networks. One-touch controls on the headset allow you to answer or end calls and adjust or mute the volume across devices. Bluetooth technology lets you connect the headset's base station to your mobile phone.
Three Wearing Styles to Suit Your Needs
The Savi 740 sports a sleek, lightweight design and has been comfort-tested. It can be worn three different ways, whichever suits you: over-the-ear for a discreet look, behind-the-head, or over-the-head for maximum stability.
Designed for Outstanding Sound Quality
In addition to DECT technology, the Savi 740 offers wideband audio for clearer PC and desk phone conversations. The headset's noise-canceling microphone filters out background noise and enhanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) makes voices sound more clear and natural.
Charging Base and Adaptive Power System
A sleek charging base with magnetic docking is included with the Savi 740. An adaptive power system optimizes for range and talk time by automatically downshifting to low power when the headset is close to the base to save battery life and maintain maximum density. Talk buttons allow you to switch from your desk phone to your mobile phone to your PC.
Swap Batteries for Unlimited Talk Time
The Savi 740 features a swappable battery that lets you change the battery in the middle of a phone conversation, delivering unlimited talk time. Plantronics offers a swappable battery kit (sold separately) that includes a spare battery and charger.
Product and Warranty Information
The Savi 740 headset weighs 21 grams and offers up to seven hours of talk time on one battery charge. It is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

My only complaint is if you choose to use the optional headband instead of the earclips, hanging up / docking the headset can be awkward since the headband gets in the way of anything that may be near the dock on your desk. I will sometimes pop the set out of the headband before docking it (which is very easy to do) but I hesitate to do this every time as I'm sure the plastic will eventually fatigue. It's only a minor complaint and can be dealt with fairly easily.
Still very happy with this purchase. In earlier review I said I was worried about plastic fatigue of the headset... this has not been an issue at all. Consistent daily use and the battery is still going strong lasting nearly a full day with I frequent breaks and even longer if I dock it after each use, even for 10 or 15 minutes between calls. BT to cellphone and USB to softphone on PC are my primary connections and both continue to work very well. Also worth mentioning that for a few weeks I was forced to move my wifi access point to within about 18" from the base and was worried about impacting signal but I didn't have any issues.
The big advantage of this headset is abailty to switch from my Cisco IP desk phone (with an optional adapter), to my iPhone and also to my Mac for web conference calls. I’m not totally thrilled with switching from one device to the other, but it’s usable.
Audio quality and receive volume is quite sufficient. The range from the headset is also noteworthy. I can easily go 100 feet away and no audio issues. This lets me walk downstairs, get some coffee or a snack and still be on my call.
The bad - the battery life is sub-optimal. I figure it goes about 3-4 hours and if I forget to charge it between calls, it has quit in mid-call 😖. No low battery warning, nuthin’. Aside from that, it’s all good.
Plantronics support is super, they answer promptly and have folks that speak and understand English - a real plus.
So anyway after getting this. First the packing is a paper cut nightmare. That being said, I like the direction they went. Very efficient and earth friendly. big thumbs up there!
But where it really counts was comfort and use.
First comfort. I tried a bunch of different ways and none of them really felt that were really comfortable.
I felt the 30 bluetooth was more comfortable.
As for use. First it gets good range. But the sound quality is nothing to brag about.
The sound was too low, and when I cranked up the volume it got all scratchy and really annoying to listen to.
The most annoying part though was the headset would just turn off, perhaps from the battery dying. And when I hit the pick up button it never picked up the phone.
I am pretty tech savy. I have been doing tech consulting for 20 years. And I can tell you this was a poor experience for me.
I hope plantronics will read this and work on these features in the future.
This headset has lived up to my expectations. It has excellent voice recognition and easily screens out background noise even though I'm using it in an office environment with my door open. There are couple of surprises that should be mentioned.
Firstly if there is a means of connecting the base station and headset to my MacBook Pro, it is not clear in the product documentation. Consequently I have the base station connected through a USB port.
Secondly, I realized the most of the buyers for this product will be using it with cell phones rather than for dictation.
Finally, the product is sold for "unified communications". This means that is designed to be used with your telephone, cell phone, or computer. The computer usage is designed to be paired with Skype or Google voice. Presumably it will also work with FaceTime and other voice chat applications.
Because of the impossibility to connect to my computer via Bluetooth, setup took a little bit longer than I would have liked. However once I surrendered to the inevitable need to connect via USB, it went quickly.
All in all, this headset will be an important tool in my law practice. Perhaps the day will come when I will find a need to connect it to my cell phone and use it in the ordinary manner, but at the moment I'm satisfied with how effective it is for dictation.
