Turn the steering wheel and…away you go! No gears, batteries or pedals - simply turn the steering wheel back and forth continuously to propel the PlasmaCar® forward. Speed up to 6 mph on smooth, flat surfaces and with continuous, fluid movements. Great exercise indoors and out. The PlasmaCar® is not recommended for use on wood floors. Intended for smooth, flat, hard surfaces. Will not function on carpet, grass, gravel, sand or any other loose, soft or cushioned surface. Recommended for ages 3 to 8 and supports up to 220 pounds so parents can take it for a test drive too! Some assembly required, approximate assembly time: 15 minutes with included instructions.
From the Manufacturer
It's like magic, but you don't need to be a magician to get it to work. The PlasmaCar is a mechanical marvel that makes use of that most inexhaustible of energy sources, kid-power, by harnessing the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity, and friction. It's so easy to operate; all it needs is a driver and a smooth, flat surface. The PlasmaCar is adult-friendly, too. For starters, it doesn't require an expensive power source that needs constant replacement. No batteries, no power-cells, no liquid fuel-just the occasional cookie or two. It's quiet too-the only sound you'll hear is the sound of its wheels. It provides kids with plenty of exercise, more so than most toys. And the PlasmaCar is engineered to be absolutely safe when used appropriately. It's been extensively tested, and meets or exceeds all significant international safety standards.¿ Fully Assembled: 31" x¿ 14" x 16"¿¿¿¿ 8.15 lbs

My only real complains are that it tips pretty easily and it doesn't go very fast. Wheels with a bit more grip would definitely help, but a better recommendation is just to get a Roller Racer/Flying Turtle. I had also purchased one of those, and we enjoyed it a lot more. It's the same basic concept of side to side motion, but it's a little faster and you seem to work more muscles using it. That's not to say this isn't a great toy, it just didn't seem as cool next to the Roller Racer.
Regardless of what you end up getting, bear in mind that you really need to have a good amount of space that's flat and level. It's very difficult to go up even a small hill.It also helps if the floor is not TOO smooth, since that makes it harder to get a good grip between the floor and the wheels. Concrete is great, although it puts more wear and tear on your wheels.
I receive the product very quickly via Prime. The product came nicely packaged and had all necessary pieces. I was a little nervous about putting it together on the night of Christmas Eve, but all that went away when I started to put it together. It was so simple to put together. The process took no more than 10 mins and the only tools you needed was a rubber mallet and a socket.c (You can use the little wrench provided but a true socket was way faster.) Putting it together consisted to popping the two back wheels into the rear holes. This is dummy proof, as they only fit in the correct sides. A couple of hits with the mallet and they seated down and clicked perfectly. The only thing left to do was attach the wheels to the steering wheel and line them up and tighten.Easier then putting a bicycle together. Now I was a little weary of the product at first (how strong the plastic would be etc) but let me tell you it is made with quality plastic. I even sat on it and I am past the recommended weight. The kids have had it almost two weeks and they love it. I read several of the reviews about the plastic wheels not going to fast but I have to say so far all three of my kids have had no trouble cruising around our neighborhood. It really cruises on our driveway and the kids have no problem taking it on the street. Overall I am very satisfied with this product. I will probably end up buying two more for the others, so they all play on them at the same time.
Also wanted everyone to know that I paid for this product and did not receive any discounts or free product for my review. Simply wanted everyone know what a great toy this is for the kiddos to get out and enjoy the outdoors together.)
Great indoors or out. There is some assembly, but I didn't think it was bad. Took about 15 mins. You will not regret buying one!
plasmacar was attractive, but for my three-and-a-half year old son, the mini scooter was more attractive, and for my one-and-a-half year old son, it is still much too large. As a play car, it is quite large, and fairly heavy, and it needs much open space in the apartment to move it around in. Also the space needs to be hardwood floor, not carpet. I think is a good thing if you have a large playroom with an assortment of toys for moving around; it is certainly different, but in a normal household with rather limited space, the mini scooter is more fun for the child. The plasmacar is not an outdoor toy.
Update, a year later: now we have moved to a house with much more open space, and the plasmacar is now popular with both children (aged two-and-a-half and four-and-a-half). But you do need space.
