Our 16 oz. plastic condiment bottles are BPA FREE and made of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) recycle code 2 plastic and are natural translucent in color.
HDPE plastic is known for its durability and strength. While not as clear as other plastics these bottles are translucent and you are able to see your product inside the bottle. These HDPE bottles are able to withstand colder and freezing temperatures very well (-100° F) and higher temperatures moderately well (near 190° F).
The bottle measures 8.5 inches in height with a diameter of 2.46 inches. The opening of the bottle measures 1 1/8 inch making it easy to fill.
The dispensing spout already has a pre-cut hole in the tip, but you can easily cut the tip to increase the hole size to accommodate thicker liquids and prevent clumping if your liquids have larger solid particles such as minced onion or garlic.
Top customer reviews
The red caps snap on quite securely and reasonably easy to remove, though I've yet to be able to remove the cap one-handed. Perhaps with practice, I'll accomplish that small feat. I personally prefer this sort of capping system over the bottles with attached caps as the attached caps always have a way of somehow getting in the stream of whatever is coming out of the bottle and then you have to go clean off the whole top of the dispenser lest you attract ants.
A previous reviewer had noted that the bottles can be a bit temperamental with oils — this is true, but only if you don't close it well enough. Just make sure the top is twisted on very tightly and you'll experience no leakage. I held the bottle upside down for a while to make sure. I later didn't tighten the cap well enough and found it to be leaking small amounts of oil during use. After cleaning it with a paper towel and retightening it, I redid the test of holding it upside down and it worked just fine. Only time will tell if this becomes a problem later, but for now it is just a matter of properly sealing the bottle.
Update (October 27th, 2015):
Since somebody asked, I did measure the bottles:
Bottle Outer-Diameter: 2 3/8"
Bottle Height (including cap): 8 3/4"
Bottle Mouth Inner-Diameter: 1 3/16"
Spout Length: 1 1/8"
Spout Opening Inner-Diameter: 1/16"
In other news: The bottles are still working nicely (granted it is only been a month and a half). The bottles are handling the Canola oil well, though you do have to make sure the cap is screwed down nice and tight. Oil tends to stick to the bottle (a little dribbling from the spout after use), so cleaning the top with a damp cloth after use seems to help immensely.
Keep in mind that these things are BIG. I made a lot of hot sauce so it works for me, but I did need to put the bottles in the door of my fridge, next to the milk, as they're too tall to fit elsewhere.
I will also confirm that, as other reviews have mentioned, these things leak a little bit. With a thick condiment like hot sauce it's not a big deal -- there is the occasional strange drip that comes out from under the cap. But if you're bottling something thinner I suspect you'll not be too happy with these.
I've also discovered that these are great for storing and dispensing pancake batter. I can make up a batch of batter the night before, saving me time and mess the next morning.
I took off one star because I wish the red cap was attached to the lid in some way. I'm certain I'm going to lose these caps over time. Otherwise, they are great bottles, easy to squeeze and easy to control how much condiment to use. At first, I was hesitant because I wasn't sure I needed six bottles but I'm very glad that I bought them now that I can see how handy they will come in while cooking. I will very likely buy more of these in the future.
I used craft paper to make labels and then covered them with clear packing tape so they would be waterproof and changeable.
