The seller accidentally shipped me 4x2.5lb platemates rather than the 4x1.25lb weight mates I had originally ordered. These held nearly as well as the 1.25lb platemates and I was still confident that they'd hold under typical usage.
As a workaround, while waiting for the replacements, I attached 1x2.5lb platemate to the bottom support of each white powerblock handle. This is pure metal with no urethane coating and it locked on extremely well, despite not being the same width of the platemate. As long as you center the platemate on the support, the weight distribution should be okay for most exercises (though I can think of a few where the weight distribution would be affected). Had I thought of this beforehand, I probably would have ordered 2x2.5lb instead of 4x1.25lb.
After notifying the seller "Serious Steel" of the shipping error, they immediately shipped out the 4x1.5lb replacements along with a return label to ship the 4x2.5lb weight plates back. Great service.
I would have given 1 star, but they do solve a problem for curls. However, these are unsafe to use for skullcrushers, overhead presses, kickbacks, and basically any other exercise where I'd need 1.25-2.5lb increments. Do not recommend.
The product sticks onto a metal dumbbell perfectly, it is not such a strong magnet is to be difficult to get off or scratched and damaged the dumbbell but it is plenty strong enough to safely attach to any metal dumbbell. It even sticks just fine to my 30 pound rubber coated steel DumbBell.
