During the last decade, platform businesses such as Uber, Airbnb, Amazon and eBay have been taking over the world. In almost every sector, traditional businesses are under attack from digital disrupters that are effectively harnessing the power of communities. But what exactly is a platform business and why is it different? In Platform Strategy, Laure Claire Reillier and Benoit Reillier provide a practical guide for students, digital entrepreneurs and executives to understand what platforms are, how they work and how you can build one successfully.
Using their own "rocket model" and original case studies (including Google, Apple, Amazon), they explain how designing, igniting and scaling a platform business requires learning a whole new set of management rules. Platform Strategy also offers many fascinating insights into the future of platforms, their regulation and governance, as well as how they can be combined with other business models.
Benoit Reillier and Laure Claire Reillier are co-founders of Launchworks, a leading advisory firm focused on helping organizations develop and scale innovative business models.

The old business models are out; platforms are in. This book is a fantastic, easy-to-read guide to the way businesses work today. You won't find complicated economic jargon here. In clear, simple language, the authors explain how we got here, and what to do next. With plenty of great suggestions on how to grow a platform business, Platform Strategies is a much needed how-to for the rapidly changing rules of 21st century economics.

The book has a well thought out and easily digestible structure. It skillfully blends the economic theory that underpins the operating environment ,with practical advice and a clear road map to help you design, ignite, scale and mature your platform. I cannot say that this is the best book on the market in this space, but I can say that I am not going to need to read any others for a while!
Thoroughly recommended.
Helpfully this book gives significant guidance on how to incorporate 'platform thinking' into your existing business and so it's useful for CEOs and established business owners as well as founders. It is also provides the best guidance I've seen on how to compete with platforms if your industry is being disrupted (something not covered by a lot of other platform books I've read). There is a concise and easy to read section on the economic theory underpinning it all, a good balanced view of regulatory and competition policy issues and an interesting section on the possible future for platforms. Definitely worth reading if you're starting, competing against or evolving towards (in the authors words) a 'platform powered ecosystem'.
Platform Strategy is the clearest, most comprehensive and most practical book about platform businesses available today - what they are, why they're important and how to create them. It's written by practitioners who have a background of working within platform businesses and now help companies incorporate their approaches. It is extremely well written and is the most up to date synthesis of best practice and thinking.
I know this market very well indeed and can wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who wants to either find out about this most powerful business model, or incorporate it into their own business.
