Parts you will need:
a. Sawyer Products SP110 Inline Hydration Pack Adapters for Screw On Filter
b. Sawyer Products Mini Water Filtration System
c. This product (Platypus 3L big zip
d. Sawyer QUICK DISCONNECT ADAPTER SET (Two Male, one Female)
1. Cut the drinking tube on the platypus big zip about mid point product (c.)
2. insert the FEMALE quick disconnect from product (d.)
3. using the drinking straw from product (b.) insert MALE connector from product (d.) in one end and the male screw on connector from product (a.) into the other.
4. add the remaining MALE connector from product (d.) to the mouth piece you cut in step 1.
now you can attach the filter inline with the bag and gravity or apply a slight amount of squeeze to the bag to filer 3L of water into another container. if you wish to use your bag for clean water make sure you sanitize the back and parts and then re-attach the mouth piece that now has the quick disconnect.
I have tested this on many hikes and can filter about 3L per 3-7 minutes from animal drinking trough (lots of sediment).
remember to backflush your filter with CLEAN water if things get slow :)
As for the pouch itself, the sealing clip worked perfectly every time, the pouch was drip and leak-free. I usually had to fill the pouch from a bathtub spout or shower head, which was not a problem. The only time I actually used all three liters, and also a one liter bottle and a liter of Gatorade purchased along the way, was during a twenty-three mile uphill from King City to Ft. Hunter Liggett on a 108° day!
So glad I did not have to stop and fool with a canteen or water bottle every time I wanted a swig! Great product.
