Editorial Reviews

Review

"Katie McCoy is the reigning queen of the subtle heart wrench; and by that, I simply mean that she lures you in slowly, garnering your focus to the big things that are right in front of your eyes, it's all smooth, light and the characters are in their own little self contained bubble and it is only when you are a couple of chapters in that you begin to realise that maybe things are not as serene and uncomplicated as they first appear, that there are more important issues." -- Nicole Mccurdy from Red Cheeks Reads

"Told via Jake and Elle's alternating first person POV, this is a sweet and sexy, delightfully low angst, romance. Play Me is like chicken soup for the romantic soul! It's lighthearted and fun and will definitely keep you smiling....and salivating, both over that V on the cover as well as the images of Jake's gooey chocolate brownies." --Book Bosomed Blog

"Jake and Ella are so hot together. The chemistry these two have would burn you. But they are more than that; they are the support they have always needed." -- Heather from goodreads.com

"This book was everything I thought it was going to be: fun, lots of sexual tension and great characters." - -SERIEous Book Reviews

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

When a man knows his way around not only a kitchen but a woman's body, he is every woman's dream man! As I read this steamy read by the talented Katie McCoy, I had to ask myself why this was my first time reading her work! Play Me is fun, beautifully sweet, intensely sexy and filled with dialogue that will grab your attention. I loved the way the two main characters are so diverse and yet so alike. Ella and Jake's love story will take you on a classical, culinary ride that is unforgettable while heartwarming. This is a great addition to my Contemporary Romance library and it will not be the last by this amazing author.

When you get in bed at two or three in the morning, you really need your sleep! Working as the head chef of one of San Francisco's most touted restaurant, Jake Matson has almost reached his life goal. He is one step closer to owning and running his own restaurant, where he can showcase his menu, filled with dishes that he has created. So, why is his new neighbor playing the piano? It doesn't matter that she is seriously hot and affects him like no one ever has before! What could a classically trained pianist and a chef possibly have in common?

No one has ever really believed in her ability as a musician. Her love of Classical Music is a driving force behind the pursuit of her dream. Her ex only wants to change her, make her into some one cold, stiff and without heart. But Ella Thomas wants to show others the beauty of her music. When she meets her tall, ripped, tattooed neighbor she finds out that first impressions are not always the way things really are. Jake Matson makes her feel alive, like she had been living in a dream world. Is it possible to combine their two very different lives into one reality?

***4.5 star review***

After having finished Play Me by Katie McCoy, I realised three things. One, I will never take canned soup for granted again in this lifetime or the next. Two, I wish I had kept up my piano lessons even after having mastered the Twilight theme tune and three, Katie McCoy is the reigning queen of the subtle heart wrench; and by that, I simply mean that she lures you in slowly, garnering your focus to the big things that are right in front of your eyes, it's all smooth, light and the characters are in their own little self contained bubble and it is only when you are a couple of chapters in that you begin to realise that maybe things are not as serene and uncomplicated as they first appear, that there are more important issues dwelling on the peripheral of the story.
Ella, is our significant heroine, a brilliant musician that for the first time in her life is striving towards independence, away from her ex and her equally creative and kooky family and towards a peace of mind where she can overcome her stage performance anxieties. When she comes across her exhausted and unkempt but hella sexy neighbour, they both create a lot of friction and negativity in one another. But it's through each others learned understanding, passions, music, food and friendship, that these two begin a beautiful and romantic journey that manages to encompass every emotion known to man. Ella's fun, flirty and down right naughty nature is brought to the surface as Jake aids her in the realisation that she is a desirable and sexual woman.

I Was Provided A ARC By The Author
(Possible Spoilers)

Ella Thomas has just moved into her very own place, its just her and her beloved piano in her little studio apartment. She's looking forward to spending all her time perfecting her craft, in order to win a very big competition and make a name for herself. She doesn't have time for much, she prefers things simple and plain. That is, until she has a encounter with the tall, scruffy, ripped t-shirt, sexy chef in the upstairs apartment. Jake Matson, with his charming smile, cocky attitude, and brownies, interrupts Ella's carefully laid plans and starts to liven up her life.

Jake Matson, the new head chef at Grassfed, is ready to show, with the help of his best friend Dakota, his boss and all of San Francisco what a damn good chef he is. He has a dream of owning his own restaurant some day soon, and running the kitchen at Grassfed is a step in the right direction. With long days at work, having time for romance isn't very realistic. But when he lays eyes on his gorgeous downstairs neighbor, with her dark clothes & a secret love for beautiful lingerie. This pianist that disturbers his sleep with her playing, suddenly having time for romance doesn't seem all that hard.

Play Me was a sweet, sexy, and fun book to dive into. Jake & Ella are both great characters. Total opposites in most ways, Ella who prefers plain foods and no color, routine and simplicity. Jake, with his ripped shirts, bed head, and love for food. But both share a huge passion for what they do and their dreams.

I liked seeing Ella's character grow in this story. She starts to appreciation things in life, like food, added color to her wardrobe and fun. She opens herself up a lot with the help of Jake.
