For those who are concerned about compatibility: I am running this game on Windows 10. I play it in window mode and in Vista compatibility mode. To change the compatibility mode, right click on the icon on your desktop, select properties, and go to the Compatibility tab. To play in window mode, open options in the game and deselect "full screen". There you have it. It should run just fine after that.
At its heart, the original Chocolatier is a trading game. It reminds me a little bit of the Tradewinds series of games, but has its own flair and quite a different challenge. The story version puts you in the heart of the rift between the two sisters fighting over the family chocolate business. You are given a secret recipe and a factory to corner the chocolate world. You journey from port to port seeking deals on the ingredients you need while hawking your chocolate bars, squares, infusions, and truffles. There are special ingredients unique to different continents and even special "cacao" beans in certain cities for rare recipes. Over time you gain opportunities to purchase more factories, as well as acquiring candy shops.
There is a mini game involved each time which involves "shooting" the ingredients onto a common pan which your factory line then puts together. Depending on how quick you can shoot the recipe's ingredients onto the assembly line determines how many chocolates that particular factory makes. This is fun on one hand and maddening on the other. It's a great challenge to your brain, but the positioning of the "next few ingredients" going into the hopper could have been in a better location. It makes it hard to anticipate the next ingredient in order to speed up your firing.
All in all this gives several days of enjoyment in one sitting as you finish the storyline. It also offers a continuous play mode once you've done the story. It fails to reach a five because it suffers a bit in re-playability. At $6.99 this is a great value though and definitely deserves a spot on the casual game roster of people who love trading strategy, empire building games with a bit of light puzzle solving.
**This was compatible with my Windows 7 for those who may have that concern.**
