I purchased two of these controllers based on the fact that the retail price was the same as the Fire TV controller but were being sold for half the price.
Originally I thought I was having troubles with the battery charge. While I can't explain why/how it resolved it, using a paperclip to reset the controller (I held it in for 15 seconds) seemed to have fixed this issue.
I attempted to play Bard's Tale which asks you to press the "menu" button to start. The PlayPad Pro for Amazon Fire TV does not have this button.
While playing Zen Pinball HD, you need to use the top shoulder buttons to control the flippers. If you press the buttons at the edges towards the center of the controller (where my fingertips naturally rest), the button does not stop pressing in when flush with the outside of the controller. You can actually push the button inside a little. Originally I had wrote about the controller feeling fragile but I feel that is too subjective and have removed it.
Why did you choose this rating?
I have purchased a number of 3rd party Xbox 360 controllers for less than $20 that were truly compatible and did not give me this much trouble. Despite it costing half the price of a new Fire TV controller, I didn't feel that I got my money's worth.
What did you like or dislike?
I liked the idea of having a 3rd party controller for the Fire TV that was not as expensive. I disliked that it appeared not to be worth the cost of admission.
Who would you recommend this product to?
Considering how many of the controllers must have sold out and there are very few reviews - most customers must be happy with what they got. Amazon has a great return policy so you may want to take the chance.
Save yourself the disappointment and the headache of returning this poor controller, and wait for Amazon to restock the one they actually designed for the Fire Tv.
UPDATE: just 24 hours later, after only an hour or so of use, the left analog stick no longer registers downward movement. Hands down the worst controller I've ever used.
It paired easily and works great in game pad mode. It even has app mode and mouse mode that I was unaware of when I purchased it. Mouse mode is great for all my side loaded apps that are made for a touch screen like Xfinity TV to go for live TV. App Mode works great for XBMC so you can use the game pad for everything.
I have only been using it for about 2 hours but everything is working flawlessly. I will update this review after I use it more.
It took a while for it to charge, but after that, was able to use it with Bluetooth.
UPDATE: look's like I received the 80692 version and not the 80696 version mentioned in the listing. I don't know if and how this makes a difference. I don't have any problems with this game controller as of yet. (see photo)
