This is not a review with my thoughts on the 500gb super slim PS3 console as a gaming device. This is a review of my most recent purchase encounter with Amazon. I had a working edition of this model of PS3 for 6 1/2 years before it crashed. I absolutely loved it and it's one of my favorite gaming consoles.

That is why I tried to purchase a used one after my original super slim 500 gb that I bought in 2013 finally crashed at the end of 2019. I decided to invest in a used PS3 super slim 500 gb at a fairly low cost. I bought from the Amazon Warehouse, in Used: Good condition. Shipping was very fast, even faster than expected. I was not impressed with the shipping quality. The inflated cushioning inside the box was deflated, leading me to think the console had been jostling around the entire time it was in transit. The console came with all cables and a controller in an original PS3 super slim box which was great. However, the console DID NOT BOOT UP. Ever. This console has the exact issue my old one does. I plugged the device in and saw the expected red light on the power button, indicating it was receiving power. Then, I pressed the power button, the light turned green as it attempted to boot up and then within 1-2 seconds powered off completely. Now there is no red light. The console is little more than an overpriced brick. Per others I've talked to, this issue is often one with the motherboard or the system's power console. If the motherboard, it can be expensive to repair. More than a used PS3. Regardless, I'm very miffed that Amazon sold me a console advertised in good condition and it never once functioned. Does Amazon not have people testing these devices?? It even had a sticker on the side indicating the hard drive had been reformatted and reset to factory settings. How? It doesn't turn on! I started a return immediately. I purchased from the Amazon warehouse with the idea in mind that they, as opposed to a smaller game seller who may have few or mixed reviews, would be more reliable. I was proved wrong. If I could, I would give NO STARS because that's what this purchase deserves. A big, fat nothing, just like that "nothing" Amazon sold me for $150.

Get a new PS3 while you can people

Delivery was really fast and shipped well protected so it arrived without damage. I have owned four PS3’s (all died from hard use) so was pleasently NOT surprised this one was like the others. True the Blu-Ray drive was on top, which was different. I own a PS4 so was using its HDMI cable initially, but that caused video and audio issues. After digging around awhile I found the HDMI cable I had used with my last PS3 and connected it up. This seems to have solved the video/audio issues. Plays PS and PS2 games that are available for download via the PSN store.

UPDATE: PSN Plus support for the PS3 ends this month (March 2018). No more free games etc.
Sony will stop making the PS3 next year (2019) so if you want a new one, better get it now.

Purchased this from Amazon Warehouse as "used: like new" item and I'm very pleased with it. I already have a Ps4 pro but I can't play college football or the Mass Effect Trilogy on it. Glad I was able to get one in such good condition at a reasonable price. Console, controller and cable were all in excellent condition. Still lots of great games available, many at discount prices, for this model.

Shipping was good, system works great everything was on point but I did have to buy separate hdmi cables because the ones the system came with are the AV cables and my monitor requires hdmi. Also I did want to add the reasoning for the 4 star review is because the charging USB cord stop working on my controller causing me to purchase a different set of USB charging cables which are great and can now charge the controller with no issues over all I am very pleased with my purchase and definitely recommend it if you miss the old ps3 classics.

Third PS3 after the second one of 7 years finally died. Hit Christmas present with the son, since he liked race cars, airplanes, and deer hunting on the previous unit. The slim design is nice. However, there is a strange glitch that happens every 5-10 minutes in which the screen goes blank. May possibly be the cord, not sure. Other than that, the resolution is as expected and the response of the unit to changing screens is very quick. Recommended if you still like playing your PS3 and earlier games.

I am a mom so he loves to see me falter with the game system, I'm pretty hilarious with my ineptitude so it always is fun. I really enjoy this time we spend together playing video games(badly on my part). It is not isolating at all. We all get involved-we are a family of five. I love that it plays dvds. I use it almost daily!

I've had all three versions of the PS3 and this one by far is the ugliest. It seems like they wanted to cut costs with this ps3, but it is quiet and light. The optical drive seems cheap the way it slides over the top. I think the best ps3 version was the slim version (the model after the original fat model). Also, I have to say this about the PS3. I've had 3 different PS3s (the original, the slim, and now this super slim) and on ALL OF THEM the operating system is horrible. It is so buggy and slow. Getting into the playstation store is a hassle and doing things like syncing trophies or loading your download list run you the risk of locking your PS3. Having said all that though the PS3 now has an extensive library and some really great games.

Bought this in 'good' used condition from WeEntertain. While the console works, the controller doesn't and refuses to charge (tried multiple cables). I understand these items are used, but the console and controller were also incredibly grubby, covered in dust and grime, and one of the side panels of the console had come off. A simple bit of TLC and some alcohol wipes would made a big difference. The controller charge cable that came was also frayed with exposed wiring. Not good. I wasn't expecting a brand new item, but you do expect a certain level of quality control and care when buying used products like this. Not good. Steer clear and buy local.

I paid 74 pounds for my console and it arrived in absolutely appalling condition, despite it being advertised as " Used - Good"
The controller and console were both filthy as well most of the buttons hardly working a lot of the time and the rubber grip for the left analog stick being detached so it spins around. In short, do not buy one of these consoles. I would be surprised if my lasts much more than a month or so. You are much better off purchasing one that is brand new, or in like new condition. The reduction in price was not worth a shoddy PS3, in terrible condition, that has not been looked after at all.

Wanted a PS4, but none available, so went for the PS3 - I'm a casual gamer and not interested in playing the latest games. The super slim PS3 is perfectly adequate for my needs. The one we purchased does everything we want it to do. It's worth knowing that backward compatibility isn't guaranteed with the PS3, some models will play PS 2 games, some won't. Some will play PS1 games, some won't! There's a lot of info on line about this.
The machine isn't the fastest, but once again, for us that's not a problem. This particular machine came with one controller, but further controllers can be purchased easily on line.

This is a great piece of kit. This is my favourite gaming console. I paid £80 from Amazon and I think it is money well spent. It is a solid all rounder media device. I can run streaming apps and play fantastic games for under a fiver each (used). The PS3 was re-released twice after the fat version. First as slim and then super slim. That should say something about how popular it was. It is aesthetically pleasing to look at. Ok, the graphics aren't as great as the next generation of consoles like the PS4 but i favour fun over graphics. I am chuffed I bought this!
