The 3D Display Specifically Designed for Gamers
The PlayStation 3D display is essential equipment for players who are in search of serious 3D gaming experiences. The display is slim with a screen size of 24", and features full 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080). Its built-in Edge LED technology offers brilliant contrast, while a 240 Hz refresh rate ensures ultra-smooth play. It also has built-in speakers and a subwoofer to enhance the audio. In addition, it can be connected to cable TV boxes, a PC or any other compatible device via the display's two HDMI ports or its single component HD port. Both of these input types are conveniently located at the side of the display. But purchasing a PlayStation 3D display gets buyers more than a single component. It comes bundled with a pair of PlayStation 3D glasses, a copy of MotorStorm: Apocalypse for PlayStation 3, and a HDMI cable for connecting the display to a user's PlayStation 3 (not included).

The pair of PlayStation 3D glasses included with the display offer best-in-class Active shutter 3D quality and built-in USB rechargeable batteries. PlayStation 3D glasses are optimized to sync seamlessly with the PlayStation 3D display, but their universal design makes them compatible with a variety of Active Shutter 3D displays.** Active Shutter 3D technology offers superior image quality over competing Passive 3D technologies by means of the differing processes they execute. Both technologies create the illusion of depth by slightly altering what users' eyes are exposed to. Passive 3D glasses block different kinds of emitted light from reaching each eye. The result is a 3D effect, but one in which certain light data has been omitted. In some cases this can equate to up to half of the available lines of resolution, meaning that this type of 3D effect can not reach the level of true 1080p HD. Active 3D on the other hand does not omit light sources from the spectrum, instead producing its 3D effect through a subtle dimming process of the individual lenses. PlayStation 3D glasses manage this effect seamlessly through their infrared connectivity. The result is a superior 3D effect, at full HD quality. Infrared connections between glasses and other components, as well as other 3D processes are kept constant through the glasses 30-hour rechargeable battery life.
SimulView Technology Improves the 2-player Gaming Experience
Fans of co-op and competitive gaming modes are intimately familiar with local split-screen multiplayer functionality, which literally splits the visible display area of a single TV used in offline play to show the differing actions of individual players participating in the same game, at the same physical location. As advantageous as this is for group play, the quality of even the sharpest of HD television displays is compromised by the halving of the viewable area. SimulView Technology does away with this issue by enabling two players in a supported game to see their actions in-game displayed as full-screen. projections.*** (The full requirement for the effect are: a PlayStation 3D Display, 2 pairs of PlayStation 3D Glasses, a PS3 system, a PS3 game that supports SimulView, and two players) Built on the Active 3D glasses technology and specially enhanced for gaming, SimulView technology brings players deeper in the game than ever before while still sharing the experience with a friend. Games supporting SimulView technology include MotorStorm Apocalypse, Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, Super Stardust HD, with more titles in development and coming soon.

EDIT 1: It is now three weeks later. I think you know what to expect at this point. After being wowed by the display, and downloading Crysis especially to play in 3D (it still plays well after these years, and in 3D it's a dream)... well, the red light of death. Hadn't used it for a while, went to turn it on and... nothing, the lights cycled through colors but no display whatsoever. Usually I balk at Sony's high prices for electronic products but you know that at least the build quality is decent. Not any more - how many hundred of people are complaining about this exact problem, the blank screen after a few weeks? This is gonna cost Sony in terms of brand loyalty as well as return shipments. A real shame - I now have no monitor or TV in the house, and am wary of ordering another of these. I have changed my rating from 5 stars to 1. Very disappointed.
EDIT 2: I'm updating this due to a comment just received below - it reminded me to edit the review. Because a strange thing happened after I returned my screen. I saw another one through the Amazon Warehouse Deals for less money, and decided to go for it. Open box, but everything was there. A gamble. But it paid off. The screen arrived in immaculate condition, and nervously I turned it. It worked each day and every day and is still working without problem. The screen has never blanked out or stopped working. The sound doesn't seem as good as my previous one, but that could be a psychological effect (the sound is never excellent on these screens anyway). The upshot: in the end, if you get a good one rather than a dud one, they are pretty great screens.
Now onto the bundle itself:
It comes with:
the Playstation 3D display (not a tv, no cable tuner or remote), Base and Base connector included
1 pair of 3D simulview glasses, with 6" usb charger
1 HDMI Cable, capable of full 1080p, 3D, and Ethernet.
1 Copy of Motorstorm Apocalypse (only game i know of at this point with simulview capabilities)
various manuals and instructions.
the tv itself is amazing quality. in fact, i am making this review on it right now. it has 2 HDMI connectors for pc, ps3, xbox, blue ray, etc. 1 component, for i am assuming, like i do, record gameplay, major game capture devices like the Roxio game capture card and the hauppage HDPVR use component cables. being that the display is made for gamers would mean they would realize this. using HDMI is quite stunning. in 2D, everything is crisp and clear, bright and vivid; one of the better displays out there. there is a little bit of smudging it appears, or in another review, dust. it is only visible with a all white screen or from not looking head on. i am assuming it is something to do with 3D, which is great, but the i havent explored it enough to fully give a reliable review on that part, but once i start playing uncharted 3 and assassins creed revelations in 3D i am sure to be blown away. the component is as good as i expected, but not better or worse. there is quite a bit of ghosting, due to the fact i can only record in 1080i with my Roxio, which is a capture card, not an hdpvr, but its pretty good none the less. link to unboxing/gameplay/setup: [...]
the 3D glasses themselves are, i am sorry to say, made of low grade plastic, and seem like it would be easy to break them. not bad though considering the price, and they are the only glasses on the market that support simulview right now. work well enough though. the usb cord included to charge the glasses are TINY. literally 6", not quite enough. not a big problem though, any micro usb charger will do i believe.
HDMI cable is a good quality, sony cord. delivers 1080p+ and 3D obviously, and Ethernet. Nothing much to say...
I was not able to test the simulview with motorstorm, having this purchase totally tanked me; i am broke, so therefore i was not able to get an extra pair of glasses, sorry.
the manuals i found, except for the 3D glasses one, are completely unneeded. setup was the easiest technical setup ever, slap the base together, put the display on it, merely another snap, plug the power in, plug something in eg. ps3, and you are ready to go, 3d even.
all in all, i think this bundle was a worthwhile and useful purchase, maybe not $500 worth, but definately quality; it will last awhile, and will continue to be one of the better looking pictures for 2D and 3D. i can tell you i will entirely enjoy it, now and for a long, long time. forgetting the trouble with amazon, and this was a solid purchase. if you are willing to pay $500, definately a must buy, but buy it at gamestop while uncharted 3 is included at no extra cost; Resistance 3 was just a preorder bonus.

The screen is a pretty good size. It fits perfectly on my dresser beside my PS3 and it's pretty stylish. No remote, but any universal one could probably be programmed to work with it. You can set the 3D to on, off, or auto, and the TV turns off automatically when it detects no input signal. It uses active 3D, so it won't work with those cheap 3D glasses from the movies. The glasses are shutter glasses, so they can be pricey to buy separately (I believe the 3D display normally comes with only one pair), and the screen looks a bit dimmer while they're on. The main issue I have with the glasses is that they are rather bulky and fit awkwardly over my normal glasses. They're also kind of heavy and they leave a mark on my nose after only wearing them for five minutes. I've put some cotton in the way so it doesn't dent my face. I don't understand why there's a power button on these glasses since it doesn't seem to actually do anything. I end up having to flip the battery switch off and on to make them work. They are rechargeable, but you can't use them while they're charging. Now, I'm somebody who notices the flicker of a 60 Hz TV frame rate, so I'm very happy that the display runs at 240 Hz since the shutter glasses basically cut that frame rate in half (because of how active 3D works). I can happily play without the flicker in 3D! There is some cross-talk from the 3D, but that mostly goes away if you set the brightness to maximum. Speaking of which, the 3D games feel a bit limited. In most cases, the 3D ends up feeling so subtle that you barely notice it or you forget it's there. Nothing really pops out at you. The closest objects are usually as close as the screen while the rest of it sits a short distance behind. It's kind of like a big Nintendo 3DS screen, but with ugly glasses and less pop! There is one game that stands out so far in 3D, though: Motor Storm Apocalypse, which happens to be the game that normally comes with the 3D display. It's in the story mode cutscenes that you'll see the 3D effect the best. Maybe it's just a game that's made to be played in 3D? Although I complain about the lack of depth portrayed in the few 3D compatible titles I've played so far, I still enjoy it quite a bit. Gran Turismo 5 is nice if you have it on the right setting and I'll happily play a game for hours in 3D. Movies look great on it too.
The display has 2 HDMI ports, YPbPr component input, and a headphone jack, all crammed into the right-hand side of the TV near the button controls. All buttons are hidden behind the edge of the TV, so vol+ has a raised dot on it to find it easier. The audio quality is… well, it's great at what I consider to be normal volume. Maybe it's just old, but the speaker's make that static click noise if I turn it up really loud (and judging from the length of that volume bar, it looks like it has the potential to be very loud). [EDIT: I recently tried to crank the volume up to about 60 and it sounded fine. Maybe the static was because the tv had originally came from a smoker's home?] The stand can't be adjusted or turned, which is a bit annoying, but I have no trouble with any viewing angles.
The main issue I have (and the reason it's 4 stars instead of 5) is because the screen does occasionally cut out on me. I've read somewhere that the issue may be an error caused by overheating, but I have also heard horror stories of blinking red lights and screens suddenly refusing to turning on. Thankfully, my TV has never actually stopped working and the black out only lasts for a few seconds before the picture returns. I just have to remember to hit pause before I freak out. Edit: My little brother says his LCD TV cuts out too and it's just because it's old. Not sure if he's right or not.
I've seen some sellers here on Amazon list the PlayStation 3D Display at stupidly high prices. Considering that this thing originally retailed at what, $500 or so(?) for a brand new one, it's not really worth paying much more than that, especially considering that you will likely have the 3D turned off more often than on. It's also worth saying that the warranty through Sony is definitely expired and they are, sadly, no longer in production.
Bottom line: totally worth buying for the right price. I absolutely love mine and would recommend it to everybody! But not if it costs you more than a PlayStation VR bundle.
Edited to report that unlike my other TV, the Component input DOES NOT double as an A/V input. (Plug that in, and you'll get a black-and-white picture.) Thankfully, PS2 YPbPr cables are available for PS2, so I was able to hook it up with one of those. I've also recently discovered that I can change the aspect ratio when the source is set to component. There's even an option for PSP Zoom, which actually doesn't look half-bad with the PSP connected and playing Secret Agent Clank!
