My rating is moreso for the Playstation itself than Destiny, which, though I was looking forward to it with much enthusiasm, I only played a week and haven't touched it since. I also have a white PS3 which I bought in Japan, so I was glad to have the opportunity to get a white PS4. I haven't played my PS3 since getting this current generation, but at the same time, there are things I feel that it is lacking compared to PS3, which I guess (or rather, hope) will be rolled out over time. I do love the screenshot, recording, and live streaming features, all of which I've often used. In fact, those are my favorite features of all.
I couldn't use the free month code, even though I hadn't had Plus before outside of the free month they gave people after the security breach - maybe that was why? Also, my PS4's fan is sometimes noisy even when I'm not playing a game. I've had it standing up with a stand and lying down, in both cases away from other things and with enough ventilation. I hope that will not get worse. One thing I hate is when it takes forever to send/receive messages, which I did not experience on PS3, but does also happen on Vita. Maybe it's moreso a PSN issue; I don't know. Also, I like the controller's features (though not the battery life), but I'm maybe a rare case because the PS3 controller (mine was a six-axis) didn't bother me. The PS4 controller cramps up my hands if I play a game for a few hours.
As for Destiny, two things bother me in particular: the story and the dialogue; the latter of which is cringe-worthy for me. It can be a lot of fun when playing with friends, but when playing solo, those two things are very important to someone like myself who enjoys the story as much as the action, and if I don't get it, I cannot turn my brain off enough to not notice and be irritated by it. I like my action like The Professional, in which there is also a good story and characters I can empathize with/connect to, so I need something more in the way of a story and dialogue. Frankly, I can shoot tons of stuff in most of the games I own, so that's not a general draw for me. Not saying it's a bad game; just it doesn't have enough to hold me to it.
I like PS4 but I'm not crazy about it yet. I am steadily building up my game library, but there was an uncomfortable wait there until GTA V, LBP 3, and Dragon Age: Inquisition came out. Hopefully there will soon be a saturation of awesome games that will make me play it more often. 4-stars here means "I like it," and that's an accurate reflection of my feelings.
