As a Star Wars fan, a special edition console was an immediate attraction. Xbox didn't offer this option. So, that was a huge part of my decision, especially because it came with the Special Edition Battlefront and the four nostalgic Star Wars games, such as Bounty Hunter and Star Fighter. He used to love to play these games, so I knew it would be exciting, for him. There is also a Star Wars Controller, but it isn't really anything super special. It is the same as a typical controller, but it does say Star Wars on it and it has white/red buttons, inspired by Darth Vader. He wasn't impressed with the controller. They could have done much better. I think that was his only complaint, if you even want to call it that. I think it's cool, regardless.
The first thing he noticed when he got the console was how easy it was to set up. There was not a whole lot of extra plugs and hook ups, like you have with Xbox. It was simple and basic. The layout is nice and easy to understand. All the standard Amazon, Netflix, Hulu are easy to access and in a nice layout. I am not a gamer and I have even been able to figure this out.
The system runs very quietly and reacts fast. The system doesn't get hot, like Xbox typically does. The graphics are amazing and we watch all our movies all on this unit. No need for a separate blu ray player. Online pricing is comparable to Xbox, for about $50 a year. Downloads are fast.
The Battlefront game is awesome. The maps are fun and the characters are great and the maps look like you were thrown in to the movie. The graphics are colorful and entertaining and clear.
My only complaint would be is that they didn't offer this in a 1TB and only offer 500GB, but we have tons of space still to use.
Perhaps when the DLCs come out, some of those aspects will be addressed, but I don't think we should have to pay extra for that.
The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, and it's no hyperbole when I say I'm living my childhood dreams when I play because of the beautifully immersive worlds and careful attention to the smallest details to place players inside the Star Wars universe, whether players battle on-foot or take to the sky. Adding to the depth of the experience, music throughout the game relies heavily on a remarkable and appropriate original score to complement the standard John Williams fanfare.
Fanboy accolades aside: You should probably buy Fallout 4 first. Despite the great job they did building a fun and beautiful game, EA definitely deserves the ire they've drawn from customers regarding how they're handling the release of DLC. The game isn't nearly deep enough for the $60 price tag, only for EA to tell customers that to get the "full" experience, they'll need to pay an additional $50. If they continue developing and publishing the franchise, I hope they'll invest in packaging the value a bit better for the sake of their customers (but hey, there's profit to be had).
As for the special edition system, I couldn't have asked for a cooler reason to buy a PS4. It's a great collectible for a fan. I paid the price of a standard PS4 and essentially got the game free.
This was a gift for our 6 year old son (and husband) for Christmas! First of all, there is the WOW factor. The fact that Darth Vader is actually on the console is awesome. My son loves it. The one controller that comes with it is also based on Darth Vader's colors and says Star Wars on it. It came 4 Star Wars games that had to be downloaded and my son likes all four. They are older Star Wars games, but to a 6 year old Star Wars fan they are still cool. It also came with Battlefront and I have been told that it was awesome. My husband and son play that together all the time. They just fight over who gets the cool Star Wars controller and who gets the plain white one that we bought afterwards.
The only thing we hate is a BIG hate. You can not play old PS3 games on this console. What is up with PlayStation? You can do this with other consoles. I know they want to make money, but this is ridiculous. I don't want to keep 2 consoles. Nor do I want to buy all the same games again. This is a big gripe. HUGE. But, this console is very very cool for Star Wars fans and highly recommended.
Just remember that you CAN NOT play your PS3 games. Get with the times PlayStation and listen to your audience before you lose us all to Xbox!
