I'm not at all happy with my purchase. The model I bought is not the model I received. After reviewing many reviews I decided to buy the PSVita with OLED screen and have received the simplest slim model that has the worst comments. I feel even scammed because the model I bought is more expensive than the model that came to me. I do not want my money back, I want the model I bought, because I can not make a return from my current location

So my original PS Vita (PCH-1000) with the OLED screen finally shut down after about 2 year's time. This is right around the time I was at the start of my 2nd year in the Persona 4 Golden storyline. Of course I was irritated to say the least. Instead of going through the trouble of replacing the screen on my own, I decided to buy a refurbished PS Vita (PCH-2000) LCD screen model for a heavily discounted price. I've heard good reviews of the newer Vita so I thought why not give it a try. Also given that I have over 80 PS Vita games and hundreds of PS4 games I didn't play yet that are of worthy play through value, I do plan on eventually taking them on the go to play in my downtime when traveling.

MY NEW LCD VITA's PROS and CONS

PROS:
- Long battery life
- Came with a 4GB memory card
- All buttons and sensors are working
- Came with 2 games on memory card
- Very lightweight
- Price was pretty cheap (refurbished)
- Works well with PS4 Remote Play

CONS:
- Was listed in Good Condition (LIKE NEW) but had noticeable scratches on the main screen, which wasn't too bad;
however had VERY HORRIBLE scratches on the rear touchpad which were not mentioned prior.
- Did not come with a power adaptor, but that was mentioned in the prior description before buying so no biggie.
- Was dirty and Left Joystick had defect where during games it kept pushing forward on its own (I fixed this by using a sharp pointed nail filer and cleaning the dirt around the Joystick and blowing it good).

OVERALL:
Good buy for the money considering the huge discount.

I previously owned an OLED Vita which I loved to death. But as we all know, technology wasn't built to last forever. I now have purchased the newer LCD Vita. With that being said, I will compare both Vitas.

OLED vs LCD VITA REVIEW (SCREEN):

The OLED screen is a hands down winner. It isn't even close. The colors are more vivid and the superior quality is very noticeable during gameplay. The LCD screen only takes the win when playing outside in bright sunlight as it becomes a little more clear to see during those times. Outside in bright light the OLED screen seems too dimly lit to see but is still manageable.

In other words, if I take my Vita outside to play in a hot, bright, long, Hawaii/Florida type of summer, I gotta go with the LCD Vita. In all other circumstances, it's the OLED Vita. No comparison.

Winner: OLED Vita

OLED vs LCD VITA REVIEW (BATTERY LIFE):

It is true that the LCD Vita does have better battery life. I seem to get a few more hours out of my LCD Vita when compared to my OLED Vita. It does much better when on Standby as well. However on both Vitas you can always lower the screen brightness when necessary to save more battery. Usually instead, I simply put my Vita into Power Saving Mode to extend the battery.

Winner: LCD Vita

OLED vs LCD VITA REVIEW (OUTSIDE HARDWARE):

The OLED Vita seems more expensive and more sturdy with a solid metal build. The LCD Vita is more lightweight in a cheaper and softer plastic build. I have an AmazonBasics Heavy-Duty Vault Case which fits my OLED Vita and not the LCD Vita I just received. It wasn't originally designed for the LCD one but I still managed to make it fit after using some pressure. So just make sure to check the description before buying any case to see which one will fit yours since both Vitas aren't the same sizes. Another bonus of the LCD Vita is that it comes with a Micro USB port for charging, which is universally used. You can basically always find a plug and a place to charge this Vita, unlike the OLED version.

The OLED controls do seem more precise and it never gave me any dirt related issues or break downs. It also feels more comfortable, but that is a personal preference. The LCD Vita is more susceptible to those above issues mentioned.

Winner: Tie, but LCD Vita does come with micro USB charging.

OLED vs LCD VITA REVIEW (INSIDE SOFTWARE):

The PS Vita's obscene, overly priced memory cards have been ridiculed for some time now and was a fatal mistake in the long run which can't be fixed at this point. A benefit of the newer LCD version is included memory of what I believe is 1GB. It's not much but it does help. Note that this memory can not be used at the same time as an inserted SD card. It's give or take, but is great at downloading your favorite new game or 2 on the go less than 1GB in size from the PS Store.

It also seems to have a faster processor, although not by much. I did notice that a few games seemed to load slightly faster with less frame rate drops in higher graphically intense games. PS4 Remote Play works well with both Vitas but seemed slightly more responsive with the newer LCD Vita.

The LCD Vita also has an impoved camera processor.

Winner: LCD Vita

OVERALL SUMMARY:

Winner: OLED Vita

Both Vitas are worth the investment. The newer LCD Vita does have better battery and a few slight enhancements. But the original OLED Vita's display and overall aesthetic appeal is a no match in my opinion.

Given a choice, I would go with the OLED Vita. But if the LCD Vita is the only available Vita you can grab, I would say it's worth it. For plane travelers who do a lot of flying and traveling to different places, the LCD may benefit you more as it has a longer battery life. Also when I was living in Japan I found myself using my Vita a lot in trains. Any New Yorker or city dweller will find it useful to kill time in the subways and longer commutes.

I personally used my OLED Vita often times as a multimedia device watching Netflix on the go. True a tablet can do this, but the Vita is small enough to fit in your pocket and a better gaming device on the go, which is a bonus. This saves my phone's battery from heavy drainage due to gaming and movie binges. The Vita is an all-in-one.

For you heavy PS4 users, I find myself using Remote Play more often on the Vita than I originally thought I would. It's a good benefit when playing RPGs and some Sports games, as it can be used as an extra controller when playing with friends. I've used it with Call of Duty and Battlefield, as well as Assassin's Creed and the NBA 2K series, but under intense gaming situations, the touch screen can be a headache and does take some time getting used to.

Remote Play isn't perfect. It's missing the L2/R2 buttons, which it compensates with the touch screen, so be aware of that if you're mainly buying the Vita for Remote Play or as an additional PS4 controller to use.

UPDATE : MAY 14th, 2017

So after using my new LCD Vita for about a week, I noticed some things.

Overall the gameplay and Remote Play options seem the same for both Vitas. Maybe the newer LCD Vita is slightly faster but it is barely noticeable in most situations. It does win with the battery life by a long shot. The micro USB charging also is a win-win.

The OLED Vita has a better feel to me and a screen display that is too beautiful to describe in words unless you've ever had the opportunity to play on one. Even by today's standards, that screen is a beautiful work of art. Just see it for yourself and be blown away.

I still gotta go with the OLED Vita as my winner.

*** If using Remote Play, I've noticed to keep your PS4 in Standby Mode. Never turn it completely off or your Vita won't be able to turn it back on when you're away from it.

With the PS4 in Standby or simply left Powered On, I love how I can be almost anywhere in the world and still stay connected to my PS4 and play my favorite games on the go. I used this a lot during my time in the Navy. The Vita maybe outdated by today's specs, but since the screen is so small, PS4 games still look beautiful on the display. I can travel and play my favorite PS4 games without ever needing to take my PS4 with me. Just make sure your connected wifi is secure and fast enough. In today's bandwidth I will say ideally you want at least a speed of 10Mbps, but it's been known to work well with less depending on the situation and location. ***

*** Another thing to note is that Vita support is dwindling in some areas. First they cancelled AAA gaming support on a very capable device. After that they cancelled YouTube support (though it can still be accessed through the web browser). They also cancelled many other app support and will soon be cancelling support for Live from PlayStation streaming (see the pic in my attached photos).

I hate that Sony gave up so fast on a very good device without marketing it well and I'm sure they have paid the price for it. Vita support is still big in the Japan market with new games and updates to some existing games being made every month. So for the time being you can always find newer JRPG games like Attack on Titan, Toukiden 2, Danganronpa 3, and Persona-like inspired games. There is other 3rd party support also with some new games you may like and some you may not.

If that is not your thing then the Vita still has a great backlog of its games capable on its own, PS4 games (Remote Play), PS3 games (PS Now), PS2, PS1, and PSP backwards compatibility. It's truly a legacy gaming machine.

I placed this order expecting to recieve the PSVITA 1001 With the OLED screen as described. I ended up with the 2001 in a smashed box. (amazon box is fine). Needless to say I would have gotten the 2001 cheaper from a different amazon vendor if that is the system I had wanted. Either way, after testing the vita does seem to be in working order, and undamaged. It just would have been nice to know I would be recieving the wrong system so I would not have to either send it back or the docking station that I ordered for the 1001

Very unhappy about my purchase with this seller. So many things went wrong here I’m not even sure where to start.
1. I didn’t even receive the OLED model as advertised I got an LCD.
2. While I was fine with the “slight blemish or bezel that may or may not be on the back”, the console I received looked like it had just come back from the wars and was looking for a smoke, whiskey and screw before quietly dying while you weren’t looking. It was terrible scuffed dinged and just plain broken in some places.
3. This brings me to the culmination of the issues. If you are going to put a new piece of front glass on a glorified electric waste, could you at least make sure the touch screen works!? The device was completely unusable as the touch screen didn’t even work to unlock the console.

Never thought I’d be saying this, but tomorrow I will be going to Gamestop to inspect their used devices and if that doesn’t work, I’ll just have to buy a new device. Really thought this would be a better experience with all the positive reviews but hopefully this was just a fluke and not how this company usually operates.
