The charging cable is like 3 times longer than the one I got from Sony, which helps when you sit far from your tv and need to charge your controller in a hurry.
The weight on this controller feels just a tad heavier than the xbox 360 controller and a lot heavier than the sixxaxis.
The thumbsticks as someone mentioned on a previous review do have a zone gap, where the sixxaxis controller picks up your most tiniest move. But once you get used to it, is not problem.
The trigger buttons take a bit to get use to them. They are a bit akward positioned, or at least feel that way if you have only used the sixxaxis controller. Wish they had been the same as the bumper buttons (R1,L1)or at least as wide.
I hear a lot of complaints on the directional pad, which I do have to say feels very loose, mine even has a weird click, but, I can tell you that it works better than the 360's directional pad in terms of control. I actually like the looseness of it for some weird reason, but thats just me.
The buttons light up red which is pretty cool (if you get the black controller)
The motion sensor works perfect, if not better than the sixxaxis.
There is also vibration on the black one I got.
I have not experienced any disconnects/syncing problems so far.
Overall I give this controller 4 stars to be fair for the extra cable and money saving on batteries, and for the price I got it here on Amazon ($]...] on 11/28/2008) but if they had polished on that zone gap on the thumbsticks, loseness on the directional pad and just a bit wider triggers (R2,L2) it would have deserved a 5.
The Good.
-it was only [...], less than half the price of a Dualshock 3
-The aluminum top piece does do the job it's intended to do
-rumble
-Better-suited R2 and L2 buttons than the Dualshock 3
-10 foot recharging cable!
-Interchangeable batteries too!
The Bad.
-The controller feels weird in my hands, I don't know if it's just me, but it did not feel right when playing GTA IV.
- The L1 and R1 buttons are too big, and they are hard to press in certain situations
-The D-pad isn't as good as on the Dualshock 3
Bottom Line.
To some people, it may be worth it. To others, it may not. If your just looking for a controller for a bud to play, this one will do the job. If this is going to be the mainstay of your PS3 for the rest of it's life, then you might want to reconsider.
At first I thought that the batteries were defective because every time I charged one of them and played, by the next day I had to recharge. But later I realized that the controller was staying on after I stopped playing, therefore draining the battery. My solution is that I have to remove the battery after I'm done playing.
Then when my son was playing, he broke the left stick on one controller, rendering it completely useless. I don't know if he was applying too much force, but a controller should be strong enough for an eleven-year-old. I don't let him use the other one, I bought him his own Sixaxis controller.
Those are the cons I found. The pros have already been mentioned. The big size makes it comfortable to hold, more than the Sixaxis (and I have small hands). The long cable makes it easy to charge while playing. Having the option to use AA batteries is also nice if your console is too far away. For some reason, though, this cable and the Sony one are not interchangeable--I was not able to charge the Sixaxis controller with the long cable. I have an Energizer docking station for the controllers, and I could not charge this controller through one of the extra slots (it also doesn't fit in the main slots).
