This e-workbook was co-authored by two of my favorite career wizards. Einstein and others are right that people “are motivated to learn when the lessons relate to their life experiences.” We can all learn from the STEM career journeys and “plays” of these young women. Me, Inc. has a powerful message that relates to all learning, “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”

This is an amazing tool that every teen girl should have in her hands. And there is no one better to share this information than Cari and Carlene. They are workforce experts who have the creativity and style to present this information in a way that will capture a young girl's interest and keep her attention. The role models highlighted in this book are amazing young women who young girls, trying to decide what path to take in their careers, can look up to and emulate. This compilation of great stories takes the fear out of STE@M careers and helps young girls realize there is an endless array of possibilities in front of them. It gives them the courage and the Game Plan to make the most of their lives. Every career counselor in the country should have this on their desk!

Finally! A career resource to inspire and empower teens toward a successful career future. Through engaging personal stories of actual young women this playbook provides teens with practical guidelines and action steps for career exploration and identification in the REAL world of work today. Everyone will identify with the powerful and timeless message of: have a dream, get a plan, work hard, and don't give up. This book provides the "how to" pieces needed to get started. I recommend it for students and parents of high school age, young adults, (female or male), and for any career explorer or career changer needing a fresh perspective. As a Career Counselor in private practice, this is my new "go to" resource.

And I'm giving my teen son a copy as well. This is beautifully done, using stories from young women in STE@M to not only highlight the possibilities, but also acknowledge the challenges. Many young people today, some discouraged by economic malaise and/or personal challenges, have a burning desire to succeed, they just need a guide. Here it is--Playbook for Teens!!

Girls often shy away from roles in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math because of a perception that has been placed on them by other outside elements. Playbook for Teens shows young women why STEM interests are vital to the innovation of our world and how they can pursue STEM interests with examples of how other young women are doing this now. There are tools in this book that helps guide young girls to understand how to engage in STEM related careers and how to pursue these careers and educational interests. If you know of a young girl who is interested in STEM, this is the book for them.

I was introduced to Cari Lyn Vinci at a large STEM-related event here in the Sacramento region, and enjoyed a long conversation with her after reading the Playbook for Teens. As the State Capitol and home to University of California, Davis and Sacramento State University among other learning opportunities, we are an extraordinary nexus of innovation and education, and the key to OUR "Playbook" is collaboration. I am a supporter of women scholastic and leadership programs in the region, one example being the UC Davis Keller Pathway Fellowship, designed to encourage women to explore the world of entrepreneurship and enterprise.
The Playbook for Teens is the first of what I expect to be an energizing series designed to both assist teens in understanding that they can and must develop a personal framework for their future, and to show them that they absolutely do have contemporaries who have worked hard and found their home in the STEM environment. The combination of a strong writing and advisory team along with the life stories included in the book has created a solid collaboration of valuable support for our next generation of innovators and leaders.
The doors have opened for anyone who wishes to pursue a STEM related career to experience the world around them and to help create the future. If you are the parent of a teen, male or female, you should begin a career collaboration with them, and use the Playbook as your guide and inspiration.

I've been a STEM educator for more than a decade and I've never experienced a more exciting time for women in STEM. First it was Debbie Sterling, a Stanford Engineering graduate, who created the GoldieBlox line of toys to inspire more girls to become engineers. Now, its Cari Lynn Vinci and Carleen MacKay with Playbook for Teens!

I love working in higher education, helping to diversify the ranks of STEM professionals, but I've always felt I needed help in reaching out to pre-college girls. Playbook for Teens is "just what the doctor (or engineer, scientists, etc.) ordered!" I'm ordering one for my daughter ASAP!!!

Parents - PLEASE give Playbook for Teens to your teenage daughter. You might just have a budding STEM professional in your midst! You'll be glad you did!

I was given this book for my 15 year old daughter and after reading it myself, I had to write a review as it is a fabulous, incredible, amazing book! There are few books that I've read in my life that truly connect with the audience that they intend to, but "Playbook for Teens" really hits the mark. This is a book that was written to inspire and help the teenage girl who is beginning to think about her future, and the author really nails it by sharing interesting, helpful and inspiring stories throughout the book. Every kid or young adult has dreams, and they're usually not small. I remember being a kid and dreaming BIG: "How do I become an Astronaut?" or "Does having good vision help if you want to be a fighter pilot?". Without any real reference to go by (sorry kids, no Google back then!) , those questions went unanswered, but because of the "Playbook" they don't have to be anymore! Through stories of inspiration and hard work that are from the heart, "Playbook" author Ms. Vinci shows the young reader not just that "IT" is possible, but also how! "How" is too often forgotten today, and it was really refreshing to read something that my daughter could actually draw from when coming up with a plan. At least I hope that she plans...

Being a strong woman in the work place is no easy feat today, but was even more difficult in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I watched my mother have to work twice as hard just like other women in the work place, and it made me tear up a little bit when reading some of the things that the women featured in the book had to go through in order to get on top. Imagine, a 37 year old basketball coach getting teary-eyed over a book made for teenage girls!
