About the Author
New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love. A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow. Since publishing her first book in 2013, K. has sold over one million copies of her books and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over twenty-five times. In April, she’ll release The Player, the first in a two-book sports romance series (The Catch, book 2, will be released late June), with many more already outlined and ready to be written. She loves to hear from her readers so make sure you check her out on social media or sign up for her newsletter to stay up to date on all her latest releases and sales: http://bit.ly/254MWtI

Holy wow. This book was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. My heart is STILL in my throat after reading this. The writing paints such a vivid picture that you feel that you're right there with Easton and Scout-in the locker room, on the diamond-wherever they are, you are. This was a journey I didn't want to end-and certainly didn't want to end with a cliffhanger.
I fell hard for Easton. I adored how REAL he was. I could feel his struggles-from living in the shadow of his father, to taking care of his mom, to finding out who HE really was. I wanted to hold sit with him and just be, just process who he was and what made him tick. Add in the fact that he had some serious swoon factor? Yep, I was toast. I'll gladly add Easton to my list of Book Boyfriends...and he may even qualify as a Book Husband.
Scout was a great match for Easton. Their situations are similar in a sense, so they have something common to bond with even without their shared love of the game. I really, really wanted to give her a hug. She was pulled in many different directions and tried so hard to stay true to what she thought was the best thing for everyone. She had such a sweet heart under a tough exterior-getting to know her was a treat.
These two together were phenomenal. The chemistry is there-even when they both tried to avoid it. You can't help but root for the two of them, to hope that somehow things will work when it seems it would really be for the best if they stayed apart. The sexy times were AMAZING, but the quiet, getting to know you times were just as amazing to me.
The plot and pacing of this book was spot on. The author had me intrigued and invested in what was happening with these characters from the start. The secondary characters added a whole other layer to this already complex book-and they were fantastic in their own way.
Now, this book does have a cliffhanger ending. Normally I hate that. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, of having to wait to see what comes next. This cliffhanger made sense-and also had me on the edge of my seat. I'm still speculating what may or may not happen next...and I probably will be until the end of June when the second book comes out. I highly recommend this book.
“Who needs grass that’s greener on the other side when you’re a huge fan of how green the grass is beneath your feet?”
The Player is the huge reminder of why and how I fell in love with this authors writing in the first instance. This book took me back to my first read of Driven where I had that instant chemistry with this authors words, wordy words, sentences filled with love, longing and romance. While the premise of this book has been done before, K Bromberg made this her own with her signature writing, intense character connection and emotion by the bucket load, I loved it.
“The push and the pull. The give and the take. The need and the greed. The wish and the want. The climb and the release…”
Easton Wylder is an extremely talented and drop dead gorgeous baseball player. He is out on disability leave with a shoulder injury and now his surgery has healed he is ready for some intense therapy to bring back the movement and get him out on the pitch once again. Easton was an adorable character, yes, he had that signature sportsman cockiness about him, that bravado that seems to come hand in hand with those tight pants and cleats but underneath that was a man struggling to keep his parents happy and live up to his dad’s iconic reputation.
“Because there are women who are good for a quick f***. There are women you would f***, but are better in the friend zone. And then there are women like Scout. They make you wonder, make you crave them, and drive you absolutely effing crazy because you want them when you shouldn’t. They’re an enigma. Confusing, alluring, tempting, and effing perfection.”
Scout Dalton is also plagued by having to live up to her dad’s reputation, a physiotherapist at the top of his field and highly revered to boot. It is now up to his daughter to land the one elusive contract that has evaded him and Scout is definitely feeling the pressure. Scout was a professional who knew her stuff but as ever, a woman in a man’s world always has its drawbacks and being taken seriously is always at the top. Scout held herself well and could take and fire back barbs with the best of them and it is this side of her personality that really shone through the pages.
Scout is incredibly closed off and her heart is extremely guarded, everyone she has loved has left and she is adamant not to put her heart in the line of fire again. Easton is not the baseball norm, he wasn’t a man that chased after any woman with a pulse, he wasn’t a saint either, but he knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to go all out to get it and it is this slow burn and the thrill of the chase that is a signature K Bromberg read.
“He tried to slay dragons for me.”
The chemistry was palpable, the dialogue and banter was on point, the character connection and emotion was prevalent in spades and that is what made this book a winner for me. K Bromberg has never failed to deliver a hero worth pining for, she has that knack of cementing her characters into your hearts and The Player was no different.
“I don’t think God has anything to do with this, but feel free to call his name… Cause we’re about to get biblical.”
This is the first book in a duet and while Scout and Easton’s story is far from over I cannot wait to see what happens to these two going forward. Even though it seems that the world is against them, I am hoping that their connection to one another is more than sufficient to keep the world at bay. The Catch is scheduled for release on June 29th and I for one cannot wait!!
This was an great story. A story that will have you laughing at the wittiness and banter, and falling in love with Easton Wylder and Scout Dalton, while cheering them on to make the deadline. It's a story of trust, love, friendship, fighting for what you want, and not compromising who you are to reach your goals.
The Player is a must read. I enjoyed this book so much, I have already read it a second time and will most definitely read it again.
