I thought Carter was pretty nonchalant about realizing he was gay (or bi). I think Luke and the rest of us were expecting a big freak out (which would have been more realistic, but I guess Thorpe didn’t want to make the book longer or angsty). His easy acceptance didn’t feel authentic. One of the MCs does suffer from that ubiquitous plot point of seeing/hearing/reading something benign and completely misinterpreting it and then not asking about it for some unknown reason. Fortunately, he pulls his head out of his a$$ fairly quickly. The angst it causes is short lived.
It all wraps up a bit too perfectly. Everyone is happy and accepting, and life is filled with rainbows and kittens. That’s actually what kept me from giving this book a 5 star review. That perfect ending was too pat, too easy, and not terribly realistic. It was like a Hallmark movie.
There were a few awkward words and tense changes, but it might be because the author is Canadian and it’s a style difference. The writing and editing was pretty clean.
ETA: what was with the "sneak peek"? It was totally unnecessary. It wasn't a prologue. It was just a few pages plucked out of the middle of the book and plopped at the front. Why? It was more confusing than anything. We KNOW the MCs are going to get together. We KNOW they are going to have sexytimes. We don't need it spelled out for us like we don't know what we're about to read. Weird choice.
Luke is a college student studying music but intends on going into law which is not his first choice. But his father and grandfather and his great grandfather and so forth have all been lawyer's and his father expects him to follow the tradition. But Luke loves music. His has dreams of teaching it. While being a college student he also has a job as a dog walker. This is where he meets the sexy owner of Puck, Carter. He's attracted to Carter but knows nothing could ever come of the attraction because Carter is straight... Right?
Not so much it seems when him and Carter share a kiss. But Carter has mild freak out and asks Luke to leave. But it is short lived and the guys slowly start building a relationship.
I liked both MC's and they definitely had the connection and chemistry any good book needs. I guess my only issues were that is was a bit cheesy and predictable for me. Plus everything I wanted to read about happened off page. Like them going out to dinner or a walk. Anything that happened outside of that condo was something I wanted to read about but it was all left off. So that was disappointing. But there was also pluses. It was low on angst, there wasn't any insta love, and the relationship happened at a good speed. The sex didn't happen ASAP. There was definitely intimate sexy times, but the actual sex didn't happen until later in the book and it felt like that is when it should have happened. So the book had a good speed on how everything went.
This book is for those who want something easy and cheesy. LOL
Happy reading dolls! xx
