"Turano, known for her delightfully humorous tales, has done it again."--Booklist starred review of In Good Company
Lucetta Plum is an actress on the rise in New York City, but must abandon her starring role when a fan's interest turns threatening. Lucetta's widowed friend, Abigail Hart, seizes the opportunity to meddle in Lucetta's life and promptly whisks her away to safety at her eligible grandson's estate.
At first glance, Bram Haverstein appears to be a gentleman of means--albeit an eccentric one--but a mysterious career and a secret fascination with a certain actress mean there's much more to him than society knows.
While Lucetta has no interest in Abigail's matchmaking machinations, she can't ignore the strange things going on in Bram's house and the secrets he hides. As the hijinks and hilarity that Bram, Lucetta, and their friends are swept into take a more dangerous turn, can they accept who they are behind the parts they play in time to save the day?
"Turano has crafted another feisty female protagonist who defies the mores of her time, in this case 1882 New York. This provocative novel brims with the author's trademark humor and subtle romantic style laced with faith." --Library Journal

From the back of the book:
Lucetta Plum is an actress on the rise in New York City, but is forced to abandon her starring role when a fan's interest turns threatening. Lucetta's widowed friend, Abigail Hart, is delighted at the opportunity to meddle in Lucetta's life and promptly whisks her away to her grandson's estate to hide out.
Bram Haverstein may appear to simply be a somewhat eccentric gentleman of means, but a mysterious career and a secret fascination with a certain actress mean there's much more to him than society knows.
Lucetta, who has no interest in Abigail's matchmaking machinations, has the best intentions of remaining cordial but coolly distant to Bram. But when she can't ignore the strange and mysterious things going on in his house, it'll take more than good intentions to keep her from trying to discover who Bram is behind the part he plays.
My thoughts on Jen Turano:
Jen Turano is one of the FUNNIEST authors I think I have ever read in my life. She throws complete random sections of funny or adventure into her books. She is also such a sweet person who really gets to the heart of the matter. I know Jen Turano is my mom and sister's favorite author. We all crack up laughing when someone reads her books out loud.
My thoughts on the characters:
Bram- Love love love him! He reminds me of Captain Hook or better known as Colin O'Donoghue. He just seems so mysterious, kind and soft-hearted once you really get to know him.
Abigail-I LOVE meddling matchmakers, which is funny because I would hate it if it were me that they were trying to set up. I love that she is trying to make up for past mistakes. :)
Mr. Skukman- He has got to be one of my all time favorite Jen Turano characters because he just makes me smile and laugh with his reactions to everything.
Iris- Hmmm??? Not sure what I think about her completely since I am only half way through the book.
Ruby- Seems young and silly but also mature at times. Can't wait to see what happens to her. Love the name Ruby by the way.
Silas- Love the name but he is kind of a stinker huh? Why does it seem like every book or show that has a Silas, they are all evil or bad? I challenge someone to write a character named Silas who turns out to be a decent guy.
My thoughts on the book:
Although I am only half way through the book, I absolutely am loving the story line. This book is a SLAM DUNK for Jen Turano. Just when I thought I would stop laughing, Jen threw in another chaos and I would start all over again because I couldn't imagine if that happened to me though sometimes my life feels like it could spin out of control like in the books by Jen.
The book definitely is a roller coaster with many turns and many spots that make you think "What would I do if I was in that situation?"
I can't wait to see where this journey continues to go but I am having a GREAT TIME with reading it. That should be a compliment to Jen Turano because I tend to struggle with reading and staying interested in stories. I would highly recommend this book to others with a RAVING 5 Stars!!!
Lucetta Plum is a highly acclaimed actress whose very life is threatened by a overly obsessed stage-door Johnny, as these over-eager fans are called. However, this particular fan is also very dangerous and his intentions are nefarious. Lucetta’s dear friend, Abigail, insists that Lucetta repair to her grandson’s estate where hopefully she will be kept safe. The goings-on at the estate are uproariously funny and kept me reading just to see what would happen next. I think you will really enjoy this delightful book. I especially enjoyed the surprise ending.
I would like to thank LitFuse Publicity for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

The only thing about Jen Turano's writing is the dialogue can take a lot of tangents for the sake of humor and it just comes across as more annoying than funny. There are so many times the characters say, "and back to this...and back to that..."
I need to start by saying I generally love Jen Turano's work. I love her humor and was extremely excited about this book. I bought it the day it came out. To be fair I did read it all the way through in one sitting, and liked her focus on redefining a woman, but it in the end I just felt disappointed. I felt as though she rushed it to meet a deadline. The plot was choppy and I felt like her hero wasn't as likable as he could have been. Also, I barely laughed at anything. Sorry, like I said I love her other books and would recommend any of her others, but this one I can't.
Rated: PG (kissing, stalker)
