Amber's night out with the softball team becomes a pivotal event, with the rest of her life as an "after".
How do you learn to trust when your friends and family betray you when you're really in need?
You made the mistake, you owned it. It cost you everything that was most important to you at the time: school, job, family.
They'll love you and be there for you- until they aren't.
Amber was lucky to dodge a bullet losing then love Adam in the aftermath. Too many so called friends showed their true colors.
She is lucky to have true friend Emily by her as she works to move on, from a mistake that could have done far more harm.
Is her new love someone she can really count on? Can Coach Caleb be trusted when he omitted his own part in her troubles?
Glad she found new friends in Nate and other coaches. Not sure Caleb is a better choice than her bestie and a dorm.
**POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT**
Amber had it all. A loving family, awesome friends, a softball scholarship, a boyfriend who was team captain. Then she ALMOST got into her car after she'd had too much to drink but was stopped by an officer with a bad attitude and taken to jail.
Fast forward five years. She's lost everything. The scholarship, the boyfriend, her friends have deserted her save for one and even her family has turned their back on her. Getting a decent job? Forget about it. Her sole friend is getting married and even with three jobs, she can't afford a decent place of her own.
Then she meets lawyer Caleb. She actually thinks he's married but once she learns the truth, their relationship slowly develops. How long until she learns his big secret though?
I think my irritation comes from the fact that she seems to dwell so much on the arrest to point that she still has nightmares five years later. At times, she is almost babied along and that just drives me crazy for some reason. She's supposedly a strong person yet, I'm not sure I agree. Read and make your own decision and let me know what you think!
Amber Wilds was struck with tragedy in college that left her, as she feels, forever damaged. An incident she had no control over involving alcohol and a police officer. After being kicked off the softball team, leaving home, and college she goes from job to job never feeling secure. It is at one of her jobs that she meets the strikingly gorgeous Coach Caleb, who she thinks is attached with a wife and 2 kids. After helping her with her car and a pizza date they both discover they are single and there's something there. They both catch themselves falling for each other but there is a secret about Caleb that he wishes will never come to light. When the truth is discovered it's an emotional roller coaster.
This is the first Mary E. Thompson book I read and I'm so glad I found it. I love the game of softball and this revolves around it! Amber and Caleb are made for each other it just takes heartache to make them see it!
