This is Emily Robertson's first novel and she has started off with a real winner. I love Josh and Payton. You could feel from the beginning that though they had some rocky roads ahead of them that they were both strong enough to see this to the end.

Payton's been through a lot and Emily does an awesome job writing her pain, both physically and emotionally. I had a hard time focusing on life, wanting to just read it straight through!!!

Josh is the man for her. He sees the Payton he loves and he's willing to stay the path until their future together is secure.

This was a great first book in this series. It left me anxious to read the second one, wanting to see more glimpses of their lives together!

Read this book. You won't be sorry. I adored the characters. Payton especially. Her dealing with her TBI injury was interesting and her memory issues, made my heart break for her sometimes. Plus dealing with was happening at home had to be hard. The writing is amazing. Josh is another perfect book boyfriend. He was amazing and understanding and he even had his short comings. It's nice to read about a book boyfriend who has other things going for him, besides his abs. There's issues with him and his twin brother, who I loved, Jax and those feel so real. The family scenes in this book all feel real and it gives the book something extra. I adored it. I can't wait for Jax's book!

Payton always had one rule she lived by, no boyfriends until after college. No one seemed to agree with her, even her own mother who had her at age sixteen. Returning to school after an accident that flipped Payton’s world upside down left her feeling out of control. Holding on to her rule seemed to be her only lifeline.

Josh had been letting the past rule his life for too long. Finally being at school, he’d become his own man, and he’d been putting all that behind him. Just when he thought he had it all put together, life got crazy. Not only did his ex-show back up, but Josh also found he couldn’t get Payton Whitmore out of his head.

Once Josh convinces Payton to give him a shot, she’s so closed off that he wonders if it’s even worth it. Josh can tell there’s something special about Payton though, and as soon as he goes all in, he’s ready to show her that some rules are made to be broken.

Playing by the Rules is a heartfelt story about trust, love and overcoming life’s obstacles. Ever since an accident, Payton has been going through the motions. Class, homework, study, and repeat. Lately she’s been forgetting things she normally wouldn’t and headaches have been killing her. Payton trudges on determined not to let it affect her studies. Then she meets Josh. Josh was handsome and seemed to really like her. She had decided long ago that relationships were not for her but felt her heart changing the more time she spent with Josh.

I really loved this book. I laughed and cried throughout the book. Loved Payton’s personality and Josh is such a sweetheart! I enjoyed the part where the author introduced Josh’s family especially his twin. This is also the first book by this author. The author done an amazing job on writing this book and I can’t wait to read about Jackson. The story is good and you will loved it and I’m officially a fan!

This is Emily Robertson's debut novel and I think she did a great job with it. Her writing engages the reader and has you feeling what the characters are going through. The story line flows well and is well written. The characters and their life stories are believable.

Payton has just returned to college after an accident that has left her world a mess. Her mother still is in the hospital in a coma and Payton would rather be there with her than anywhere else. At the prompting of her grandparent's she returns to school and her studies. Payton has sworn of guys, being the product of a young, single mom, she doesn't want to end up the same way. That is until she meets Josh. He makes her feel and that scares her more than anything. As their friendship grows into more, she continues to hide certain aspects of her life, thinking that she can handle it all on her own. What she has yet to realize is that Josh wants to be the one to help her through anything and everything that may cross her path. He wants to be the strength that she so desperately needs to deal with the wrenches that are thrown in her way.

Josh has his own demons to slay so to speak. Returning to school after kicking his lying, cheating girlfriend to the curd, he sets out to find out who he really is and create the life he wants. He has the chance to be the man he has always wanted to be, away from his family and the competition that his twin brother brings on. When he meets Payton, he feels so protective of her and wants to get to know her better. His character is so sweet, caring and he has this unconditional love for Payton. He helps her take the time that she needs to mend the holes in her heart and he does his best to show her that she is not alone, and that he truly cares for her.

“As he held her and watched her sleep, he noticed the first rays of sunlight coming through the window, and his last thoughts before finally drifting off were how this was the perfect start to his day.”

5 beautiful, romantic stars!! This book was such a cute and fun little read! I loved the characters and the story was so much fun!

I really fell in love with this book the minute I started reading it!! I don’t want to give anything away since it hasn’t been released yet, but I will say that it is such a romantic and sweet book! The characters are so much fun and the story is very well developed and doesn’t drag at all! Great job!
