Editorial Reviews

"Holy hotness! You're gonna want to Cowboy up! Bliss's humor and heat kept me turning the pages way past bedtime." - Samanthe Beck, USA Today bestselling author

"This book was literally EVERYTHING! Just saying that I loved it is not enough because this book was too good. Alison Bliss delivered another fantastic romance that was equal parts funny and suspenseful and kept my interest from the very first page." - The Rambling Book Junkie

"I loved every minute of this book! It had the makings of a perfect romance story, it was packed with spine tingling mystery, feisty banter, and steamy scenes that left me blushing. Anna and Cowboy were perfectly matched, their chemistry was off the charts and helped to create some very hot and spicy encounters that left me fanning myself. This is definitely one of the most impressive first reads I have read in a while. Cowboy is sure to satisfy all your reading needs, and leave you with a smile on your face." - Red's Romance Reviews

About the Author

As the youngest of five girls, Alison Bliss has never turned down a challenge...or been called by the right name. Her writing career may have started out as a dare by one of her sisters, but Alison hasn't put her pen down since.
She grew up on a small island off the Texas Gulf Coast, where most of her childhood vacations consisted of camping or hunting trips to the deer lease. Although she'll always be a Texan at heart, Alison currently resides in the Midwest with her Iowa farm-boy husband and their two sons. With so much testosterone in her home, it's no wonder she writes "girl books."
She's an animal lover, a closet video game enthusiast, and believes the best way to know if someone is your soul mate is by canoeing with them because if you both make it back alive, it's obviously meant to be. Alison's an avid romance reader who enjoys penning the type of books she loves to read most: fun, steamy love stories with heart, heat, laughter, and usually a cowboy or two. As she calls it, "Romance...with a sense of humor."

I really enjoyed Rules of Protection, so when I heard Cowboy was getting his story I couldn't wait to dive into Playing with Fire. Playing with Fire is full of suspense, angst, and sexy scenes, as well as some laugh out loud moments.

We meet Anna, who is the new librarian in town, and immediately we know she's running from something. She's quiet and a bit timid and tries to avoid Cowboy with everything she has. Cowboy being the town playboy, is not someone who Anna needs in her life. She is happy when she believes he doesn't recognize her from all those years ago, but Bobbie Jo and the rest of the group know exactly who she is, so she knows it's just a matter of time before he realizes he already knows sweet Anna.

Cowboy and Anna are hilarious together. He pushes and pushes, and she keeps turning him away. At first Cowboy seems to only be interested because Anna keeps turning him down, but as the book progresses you see that Anna may just be the girl to settle the playboy down. Things between them are definitely hostile at times, especially when he blames her for fires and anything else that comes to mind. Cowboy definitely has a problem with not thinking before he speaks and it really gets to Anna. She sprouts off to him multiple times in this book and instead of making him mad, it seems to draw him to her even more.

I adored Cowboy's character in Rules of Protection, but the character that truly stood out in this book was Anna. She is definitely a woman who knows what she wants and doesn't settle for less. She cares about the people in her life and doesn't want to bring any danger to them by getting too close. She's strong yet timid, and quiet yet feisty. She's the perfect heroine for this book and perfect for Cowboy.

I was expecting this book to be just as hilarious and HOT as ROP and although it was similar and I enjoyed the book; ROP is still my fav of the two.

Cowboy, our hero, is one hot as sin fireman who is trying to figure out who is causing the fires in town, one of which killed the Chief of the department. The whodunnit of this story is pretty cool since I love a good mystery. While researching accelerants he meets Anna, a sweet librarian who has a history with him and the Chief. Bits and pieces of the story fall into place as you keep reading and the banter between the two makes the love story cute. I do, however, have a complaint about Anna’s history. I feel like it was a little too far fetched, like maybe what she (and us) figures out in the end would’ve come to light a lot sooner. But I don’t know exactly how repressed memories work so let me take my Psych 101 theory and place it back in it’s box.

Anywho, all of the characters from book one make an appearance in this story, as they are all such close friends, and trust when I say when they get together Tom Foolery ensues. Their easy going friendship and laughs at each other’s expense makes for great comedy relief which I love! The one thing that still has me a little perplexed is that we still don’t know Cowboy’s real name? I am so curious and I just knew it was going to be revealed in the end, but alas it was not. So 3.5 out of 5 stars for Cowboy & Anna’s story.

Amazing!!! I have been dying to read Cowboy's story since the first book in this series and it was everything I was expecting and more! This book really had it all for me. There were some great, typical Ms Bliss, laugh out loud moments which were just as well written as the heartfelt heartbreaking moments. And as far as steam level goes, it pretty much burned up my Kindle! The characters were really well developed, I felt almost personally connected to them by the time I was done. I really enjoyed peeling back the layers of Cowboy's and especially Anna's personalities throughout the book. It was fun to try and figure out their secrets and the ongoing mysteries.

Cowboy and Anna are perfect together. Even though they are so different, they are each what the other needs and it's apparent time and again. Although I wanted to slap him in the head a few times, I wouldn't mind a sexy Cowboy for myself! I'm so glad everyone from book 1 was in this one. Some of the best scenes involved the whole gang. I hope Bobbi Jo gets her happy ending next!

If you can't tell already, I loved this book! I will read anything Alison Bliss writes but Cowboy has a special place in my if he would only tell me his real name!

This was a crazy ride. Between the mystery of Anna's past and who is setting off fires, to the wild chemistry between playboy Cowboy and innocent librarian Anna. I loved Cowboy! He was perfect. A sexy cowboy who happened to be a fireman, I mean how much more perfect could you get? Not to mention super charming and funny. He had a way to make you melt. Anna was so nice and loving. She was feisty but had a mysterious past that made her interesting.
I loved having the whole gang back, especially Jake and Emily - they are hilarious.

I look forward to continuing on with this series!

You know that feeling you got on Christmas morning when you were 5 and saw all those awesome presents Santa left for you under the tree? That's EXACTLY how I felt when I saw Playing With Fire downloaded to my Kindle!

Alison set the bar pretty high when she wrote Rules of Protection, and I'm very happy to say Playing With Fire did not disappoint! I fell in love with the book within the first chapter or two. I was always a fan of Cowboy- he's the kind of character that makes a girl want to laugh, cry, and get naked, all within the same paragraph! I also became a fan of Anna, she was small and feisty.... Plus I can't help that I always root for the underdog.

This book led to several awkward moments for me... "Awkward moments" as in: me busting out laughing in the middle of the night while my boyfriend was trying to sleep (OOPS!), blushing like crazy on my lunch break (which lead to "wooooooooo... What are youuuuu readinggggg?) and the super girly sighing that's always inevitable once the guy gets the girl.

There's not a thing I would change about this book, and I'm restlessly counting down the hours/days/months til I hear about another book in this series!
